Optimism and hard work are the two qualities that has been imprinted onto me since childhood by my parents. I hail from the town of Calicut in Kerala and I was lucky enough to receive all my schooling from one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the world, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. My teachers have taught me that education is not a measure of the grades or marks we receive but rather of the ability to distinguish the right course of action, which are aided by the values of honesty, punctuality and discipline.

As soon as the name Aditya Birla Group comes up in any conversation or in a TV ad, I start to introspect the impact it had on my life while growing up. ABG is such a big conglomerate that its enormity can only be expressed in numbers, not words. The group had a revenue of approximately US $44.3 billion in year 2018. It is the third largest Indian Private Sector conglomerate.

ABG: Sustaining the flavours of life - Abhishek Sahu, XIMB

After my 10th boards, I moved to Bhubaneswar from my home town, Sambalpur for my higher secondary education and was staying at my school’s hostel. After spending holidays at my home, when I had to catch my train back to Bhubaneswar, my mother used to pack for me delicious food made by her for my breakfast in aluminium wraps and containers. This breakfast, be it puri, idli or dosa combined with chutney or curry, used to have the same warmth and the taste of my mum’s hands even though I would unpack it 3-4 hours after boarding the train. This was due to Freshwrapp and Freshpakk which kept my mum’s warmth and her love for such a long time inside their aluminium pockets. These aluminium wraps and containers are made from high-grade aluminium rolled from the world’s largest aluminium rolling company, Hindalco Industries Limited.

A 'big' that keeps getting bigger!

While change being the only constant in the world, ABG is the only constant in life. Starting from the lifestyle options such as Van-Heusen and telecommunication services like Vodafone-Idea to financial services such as mutual funds or the tires made by Birla carbon. Probably I stay in a home which is built with Ultratech cement and use products which are made using the cans that Hindalco recycled. Not only because of the number of products I use but because of the experience I get every time while buying those is what makes them big in my life. It is really arduous to recollect all the ways in which ABG has been a part of my life. But the one factor which I associate the most with the group is its philanthropic activities; let it be a contribution in polio eradication, women empowerment, helping school children, academic scholarships, or any one of the innumerable things. It is the feeling that aligns with the work of the group which in turn makes them big in everyone'e life.

ABG : My companion for life

Be  it  my  first  placement  interview  or  that  first  date  with  someone  special,  it  was  always  Allen Solly,  Louis  Philippe  or  Van  Heusen  that  has  boosted  my  confidence  by  elegant  attire;  little  did  I know  that  time  that  ABG  is  making  me  look  perfect  for  every  important  moment  in  my  life.  It doesn't  end  there  though,  while  taking  the  first  step  towards  my  professional  life,  ABG  through its  ultratech  arm,  eased  my  commute  &  provided  me  the  much  needed  comfort  in  Mumbai's humid  weather  by  means  such  as  Mumbai  Metro  which  calmed  me  down  ahead  of  my  first working  day  and  enabled  me  to  give  my  fullest  everyday.  Even  after  a  hectic  day  in  a  city, Bandra-Worli  sea  link  was  my  only  option  to  cut  down  my  travel  time  to  create  some  cherishable moments  with  family  and  meanwhile  stealing  some  solitude  accompanied  by  the  roaring  of  the waves  in  mighty  Arabic  Ocean.  Apart  from  all  these  things,  it  was  the  story  of  Aditya  Birla  & rise  of  ABG  in  the  difficult  time  of  License-Permit-Quota  Raj  which  I  was  fortunate  to  read  in "India  :  Unbound"  is  one  of  the  reasons  that  kindled  an  entrepreneurial  dream  in  me.  Though these  are  enough  reasons  to  believe  that  ABG  has  played  a  crucial  role  in  almost  every  ounce  of my  life. How  could  I end the this story without  mentioning  how  Idea  cellular  network  facilitated  me  to  connect  with my family  even  when  I'm  miles  away  from  my  family?

Big In My Bank Life - SCMHRD

One of my ambitions was to handle a bank branch so effectively that I could achieve maximum customer satisfaction and exponential growth with zero credit risk. I got an opportunity to work as a Branch Manager for Canara Bank in 2017. My branch was a purely new one, since it was set up in a new area of Jamnagar city. Another challenge that I faced was to market the brand of my bank in this place which was already dominated by large peer banks such as ICICI Bank, SBI and Bank Of Baroda. I knew what I had to do and I also knew that the idea was not easy to execute, given the uncertainty of the market conditions and the existing competition.
