ABG – As Indispensable as it can be! | Nikhil Aggarwal, DMS IIT Delhi

Part A: In our day to day life we interact with a lot of brands, but only a few of them form an important part of your life, an Indispensable part. Look closely and we realize that Aditya Birla group with its multiple brands has been omnipresent in our life. From what we wear, to the structures where we live, to how we travel, and even how we communicate, all these things and much more have been influenced by the contributions of Aditya Birla group in India and worldwide. Millions of people knowingly or unknowingly consume products and services provided by Aditya Birla group. Same is the case with me, coming from a family where livelihood depended on construction business for much of the time. Aditya Birla group’s UltraTech cement has not only influenced but has been a major bread winner for the family. Ever since, I have started wearing formals, I have been a big fan of Louis Philippe, I even remember wearing the brand when I got placed during my graduation. Similarly, my father has always preferred to wear Peter England articles to his workplace. During my research when I realized pantaloon is also owned by ABG, I was literally shocked since, I can always see pantaloon bags lying here and there at my home, all thanks to my mother and my beloved sister. So basically, we just need to look and notice, ABG’s offering are there for everyone irrespective of age or gender.

ABG: The Amitabh Bachchan of the Business World - FMS, Delhi

The roots of the ABG can be tracked to way back in the 19th century when in 1870 Shiv Seth Narayan Birla launched a cotton and jute trading business in the town of Pilani, Haryana. Despite the attempt of British India to establish monopolies of British trading companies in India, he succeeded in building family's first successful business. His Grandson Ghansyamdas Birla forays into manufacturing sector by establishing a jute mill thereby establishing the family's first industrial holding in 1919. The family supported Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters in their quest of Independence of India. Just after the Independence, the family set up Grasim Industries importing rayon from other countries and thereafter setting up a plant in India to manufacture the same here. This set the stone rolling in terms of manufacturing ventures by India's most prestigious multinational conglomerate.
