Over the past 150 years, the Aditya Birla Group is touching lives of people in this country and abroad in one way or another. From being the most trusted band for apparel and lifestyle products to being in partnership with one of the biggest telecom operators, it’s become a part of each one of our lives. For me too, like every other Indian, ABG has played a significant role in contributing to moments, big and small. From being a group that has made telecom and chains of apparel & lifestyle products easily accessible to all kinds of audiences to being one that serves all kinds of needs, regular or unique in these domains, the brands that the ABG Group has under its umbrella have been my go-to places most of the times. For me, this group’s presence has been there during all my life’s milestones, be it farewells, get-togethers or job interviews. Rushing to Van Huesen without thinking twice for formals to be worn on my big days to celebrating Father’s Day every year with Allen Solly or Peter England as the perfect gift to show my love, it has been a great association with ABG. Also, what contributes most to making a group like this special is that not only in the big moments, but in countless daily experiences, ABG has remained a constant. Be it a regular visit to a Pantaloon’s store which is found somewhere nearby always with a friend or two or simply the thought that comes in my mind about not changing my mobile network from Vodafone irrespective of a few issues here and there due to the absolute best customer service, I think it is these small moments of joy and security that the group gives me which make it significant in my life.

ABG has been a part of my life since a long time. When the placement season started in my engineering college, I started looking for comfortable formal clothes and after trying many brands, I felt the most comfortable in Allen Solly. The design and quality of the products is amazing. There was a general conception in my mind that formal clothes are not comfortable if you have to wear them for a long time. The formal clothes I bought from Allen Solly were really comfortable and gave me a lot of confidence. It was the first Indian brand to introduce work fashion for women. Not only Allen Solly, Van Heusen and Pantaloons of Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd. have been a constant part of my wardrobe since the last few years. After coming to MDI, I need to wear formal clothes almost on a daily basis. Allen Solly and Van Heusen have the kind of comfortable formals that I can look good in and wear all day. Allen Solly is an old brand in apparel history which has made a good and reputed space in the heart of customers. The fabric of each and every apparel is good. The brand has never disappointed me and has been a constant part of my life for years. All the brands of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd. personify style, attitude, luxury and comfort.

Overcoming Challenges

Challenges are what drive us to bridge the gap between who we are and what we should become to make our mark in this ephemeral time we have as human beings. Succumbing to anxiety, pressure or any hardship is not what life wants out of a person, rather it is the glory one finds after battling all the hardships. Like everyone out there, I have also battled my way out and I am willing to do so forever, since for me success is not at the peak but around the things I like doing and things which according to me impact the world as well. For me, success was the time when I helped my small cousin understand a math problem or when I made an effort to come out of my comfort zone and team up with new people for the class project activity in school. I have encountered many personal challenges as well, being good in school does not imply one is perfect in life and I learned it quite early. The one thing I have always kept in mind is do what it takes to win the moment, and never regret later about the things which could have been done in past and wonder about the impact those things might have created. And the most important learning one should be clear about is to let go of things because one of my main mantras is: no one has ever lived a life the same way an individual has, and that is what makes that individual unique.

The ‘NEVER GIVE UP’ attitude that brought me to #IIMTRICHY

To begin on a lighter note, I have encountered challenges right from my birth, being born as a 1.3 kg premature baby, I believe only that ‘NEVER GIVE UP’ attitude of mine kept me alive and surviving in an incubator for nearly a month. Growing up, I encountered my first challenge when I failed to secure a seat in a medical college, which was my dream ever since as a kid. This failure surely was a set back and I went into my cocoon for a while, but this ‘NEVER GIVE UP’ attitude kept me awake and gave me new dreams of venturing into the humanities stream. The next year I appeared for the HSEE exam conducted by IIT Madras for a 5 year program in developmental studies. Unfortunately, I could not clear that as well. The amount of social and peer pressure I was facing made me almost think of quitting, but this ‘NEVER GIVE UP’ attitude of mine again picked me up from my shattered dreams and made me pursue a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication. While pursuing, that urge to achieve something big in my life pushed me to prepare for CAT. To my surprise, I cleared it in my very first attempt and secured a seat in IIM Trichy with 10 other admission offers from the other IIMs. This journey has surely taught me perseverance and patience with dedicated efforts will surely see you through at a higher place than you dream of. With the same ‘NEVER GIVE UP’ attitude, I am looking forward to more interesting challenges in my life.

A company that grew with our nation - Memories with the company from a student of #IIMTRICHY

I was exposed to the company ‘Aditya Birla Group’ when I was a 13 year old girl and had first gone to the mall newly opened in a tier-2 city, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. I was fascinated to buy the ‘forever 21’ branded dress from the retail chain of Aditya Birla Group – Pantaloons. Ever since then, my thirst for fashion and good dresses has been catered by Pantaloons. It has always created memories to shop in Pantaloons with my mom and today when I was asked to write about Aditya Birla group, Pantaloons was the brand I got reminded of at the first instinct. Thinking back, another brand under the company, ‘More’ which was a supermarket and grocery retail venture of Aditya Birla Group brings me back memories of grocery shopping with my mom on the weekends. In fact, ‘More’ was the first supermarket opened in our locality 8 to 10 years back. Later, due to sustainability issues, it was taken down in our locality, but since it was a retail chain by ‘Aditya Birla Group’, it will always be remembered. A company which was started in 1857 and is a key player in the country is known for its Corporate Social Responsibilities which in a way developed India after Independence. It was enthralling to read about the CSR activities being carried out by the company including in the sphere of education, Aditya Bal Vidyamandir and girl child education initiatives, which has created an impact in the society. Other activities being in the sphere of health care, sustainable livelihood, infrastructure development and social change. Reading about these CSR activities for the development of our country and the success story of the company for nearly 2 centuries now, I have naturally become a fan of the Aditya Birla Group.
