It is a multinational conglomerate, operating in metals, cement, viscose filament yarn, branded apparel, chemicals, fertilizers, insulators, financial services, telecom, BPO, and IT services. Aditya Birla Group has always been part of my life and always will be.
From starting a cotton trading operation in the small town of Pilani to being one of the largest private sector conglomerates in India, along with a worldwide presence in 34 countries spread out across 5 continents, Aditya Birla Group has been touching our lives since 1857. By entering and acquiring certain industries majorly dominated by Britishers in pre-independence period and launching their flagship company Grasim just 10 days after India’s independence, Aditya Birla Group has made significant contributions in building India’s economic history.
I belong to the small city Hoshiarpur which is in Punjab. When I was in 12th class, the “MORE” supermarket was opened just 500m away from my home. On exploring it that evening I came to know that it is of the Aditya Birla Group.
Obstacles are an essential part of one’s journey in life. As a famous proverb says, “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor”. Each person has to go through struggles, obstacles and face challenges in order to reach their ambitions and achieve their goals. These goals might be little everyday tasks or big ambitions beyond most people’s imagination, but no ambition or goal is ever big or small, irrelevant or relevant. You cannot measure the importance of accomplishing a simple goal in someone else’s life.
Aditya Birla Group is one of the oldest businesses of India. Founded by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla in the 19th century, the business initially only traded in cotton. However, in the 1850’s the business flourished under Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla, also known as the Founding Father of the group. He expanded the business by setting up industries in sectors like textiles and fiber, aluminum, cement, and chemicals. But what put the group in the limelight was when Mr. Aditya Birla, grandson of Mr. Ghanshyam, decided to be the first person in India to venture into global business. An interesting fact to be noted is that this decision was made by him in 1969, way before the globalization reforms came in India.
