Road to IIM Ranchi and the challenges along the way…

Part A -This is a story about my journey from a suburb to reach one of the premier management institutes of the country. The start of my story is very similar to that of thousands of engineers around the country. A meritorious student performs well in the entrance exam and joins an engineering college. So I joined Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College in the department of Electronics and Communication engineering. My college was in North Bengal and it’s location was it’s biggest disadvantage. It failed to attract good teachers and companies. The competition for placement was immense as we all knew we had only a limited chance. I will fast forward to the day of my interview. I stood nervous outside the interview room, dressed in a set of formals purchased from Pantaloons, specially for that occasion. My first set of branded formals from Peter England. As I was finally called for the interview, I approached with apprehension. I was really nervous but grew steady as the interview progressed. I did well and was selected. I breathed a sigh of relief.

Journey of average engineering grad to MBA-TAPMI

Journey of average engineering grad to MBA-TAPMI

life has become very challenging after graduating as engineer. getting placed in a service-based company through campus placement gave no time to think of the career to pursue after the graduation. Since the competition is very high in the market. Only the people how update the skills according to the requirement will be able to survive. After joining the job here i got to know the real competition, how are things managed, how the organisation runs? Thinking on the same line my interest on career in management side increased. Here you will be the leader who leads, supports, motivates the people. Making other people work is a challenge which needs to be taken and get the right results.so I planned to pursue a career in management. until now all things are in my comfortable. now the things have changed all the things starting from cat preparation to admission in a b school and then surviving at b schools in such competitive environment is difficult. First phase started with preparation for the cat exam. preparing a strategy knowing my strengths and weakness then starting with improving my weakness. then writing mocks for understanding that where you stand in competition. then changing strategy accordingly. after the exam cleared with 90 percentile. first step in the process is finished and then applying for b school, getting short listed for GD-PI. now I am here in TAPMI with mission to evolve not only as a leader but also a person with values and ethics. Just one thing which every one must remember is learning is a lifelong process, there is no end for learning
