How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
The most interesting thing about challenges is whatever may be the outcome one also learns a thing or two during his effort to overcome a challenge. Being a student for major part of my life so far and having no professional experience whatsoever almost all of my achieved ambitions have been related to academics. But I would like to tell about a particular year in my life when I had to face multiple challenges to accomplish the job at hand.
Learning and Growing with ABG - IIM Kashipur
Part A: Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?
Dreams don’t come with rules!
I have born and brought up in a middle class family where children usually have less pocket money but always have big dreams in their eyes. I too had one. Having a father who plays awesome ‘dholak’ make you look up to him as your music teacher. But I was attracted towards western music and wanted to learn and play drums. Though, the knack of music beats was there in my blood from the boyhood, but I didn’t had the drums to voice those beats. We couldn’t afford it. But, I have this striving-till-the-end attitude whenever I confront anything seeming difficult on first sight. So, I put on a song, maxed the sound and I started playing beats on my PC table. That was the first step towards learning and playing beats. I learnt the basics of music beats myself by carefully listening the tracks. But, then I realized table couldn’t produce bass sound. I searched for things that can produce that low pitched bass sounds. And I discovered ‘The bucket’. So, I started playing buckets. That was a point from actual drumming started. I played quadruples, triples, and paradiddles and I went on and on and never returned.
Tenacity
Being the first graduate in my family my parents have always emphasised the need for a good education and that is why I wanted to study from an institute of national importance. After my first trial at Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) I stumbled to get into NIT but I did not give up, I joined a state government college and prepared for JEE again. It was challenging as I had to attend classes at the college, complete assignments, clear the semester examination and study for JEE. But through perseverance I cleared JEE and got into the same college which previously rejected me.
Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life
The roots of the Aditya Birla Group date back to the 19th century in the picturesque town of Pilani set amidst the Rajasthan desert. It was here that Seth Shiv Narayan Birla started trading in cotton, laying the foundation for the House of Birla. Years later Aditya Birla Group has become one of the shining stars of all the Indian conglomerates which have made a significant impact on a worldwide stage. It has such wide range of its operations in the whole world that it is spread across 35 countries with more than 120,000 employees worldwide with a revenue of approximately US$44.3 billion in year 2018.
Beyond hurdles!
Every person in his/her lifetime would encounter a situation which they need to overcome in the best possible way. One such instance which I faced was to overcome my fear of examinations . Though I was a hard worker and did all the possible readings before the D-DAY , there were instances in which I blanked out at the examination hall due to the stress which I faced. After a few sloppy attempts in exams I decided to work on the problems and not on the symptoms. I started interaction with many of seniors who gave me lot of ideas to beat the hurdle. After much contemplation and discussion, I realized the stress within me came because of the need to satisfy others. There wasn't any stress when I did a particular work for myself . I started viewing things in a different perspective. I read a lot of philosophy so as to inculcate positiveness within me. I watched movies which were more motivational and positive by nature. Slowly things became better and most importantly happier to me. I was able to face examination in a better way than I did before and indeed my scores were better than during my earlier times. Alas 'Growth' is nothing but being better than our previous self. It wasn't a great achievement on a national scale but still this is something which I feel I could be proud of forever and that is all that matters when we decide to GROW!
