Exposure to Global Expert Networking

Exposure to Global Expert Networking

After my two-year stint at Vistra ITCL as an Operation Executive in the Fund Operations team, I decided to pursue a management career with specific focus of finance and was lucky enough to be selected at NMIMS Bangalore. This transition marked a new challenge as I stepped from the outsized corporate world to a premier b-school. Besides the proven versatility, industry tailored curriculum and diverse peer group of a MBA Programme, this granted me the opportunity to relocate to a new city and grow holistically in a dynamic environment away from the comforts of my home.

Summer of 2019

It was one fine day in the year of 2018, when it was just a couple of months since I had just kickstarted my MBA journey and I was having the experience of my life. Every second day was as eventful as the previous day, filled with a grind of lectures, guest lectures, assignments, tests, presentations, extra curricular events, competitions and of course parties! Like every engineer in the flock, I too struggled with my finance courses in trimester 1, but the initial struggle and low scores didn't matter to me. Because you know what? I had completely fallen in love with finance! Every single sum, every financial statement, every question (however simple) seemed to fascinate me. It all seemed to make sense just right, and knowing the financial aspect of businesses was an eyeopener. I had always been inclined to finance intuitively, but once I actually started studying through it, I exactly knew what my specialization was going to be.

To Study or Not to Study And Role of ABG - Ankush Bansal, NMIMS Mumbai

Having been worked in corporate for almost 2 years, I decided to prepare for MBA exams while still continuing my corporate job. For me, quitting the job to prepare for MBA wasn’t an option. Entrance exams required time, energy and attention. Managing my job while preparing for exams was a huge challenge. I had been assigned a project which was crucial to my team. The work was new and challenging. The work required me to work not only during regular working hours but also over nights and weekends. I had made my decision to not give up on either job or my studies. I knew that managing my job and studies will be very challenging. I did not have enough time; it was important for me to come up with a plan. Since day and night time were being utilized by my job, I had to study in morning. I knew I had to capitalize on my weekends for studies. I had to utilize time to commit to the planning, preparation and delivery of the challenge. I knew that key to achieving success is to dissect the challenge into a number of smaller steps. For me, each small step was a short-term goal and completion of each short-term goal meant one step closer to success. With my short-term goals in place, I committed to invest the time and effort efficiently to make sure I continue to deliver my short-term goals. Repeated success in delivering my goals increased my motivation which, in turn, increased my belief in my abilities to deliver my long-term goal. I had analyzed my strengths and was working on my weak areas. During this time, my hobby of being a DJ always helped me to pave a way out of any obstacle, while remaining upbeat. Through my constant hard work and determination, I was able to complete my project as well as crack entrance exams. With my time bound and focused preparation plan in the right direction, I was able to get into a premier B School – NMIMS.

If you never try, you'll never know.

My corporate experience began on April 01st as I reported to the BKC lounge all set for day one at Jio Studios, Mumbai. I was eager and nervous at the same time. I didn’t really know what to expect and had no clue what I would learn. But the amount and level of action I witnessed and became a part of at Jio Studios was beyond my anticipation. Although during interviews we talked about roles in digital marketing, content marketing, branding and sales, I wasn’t sure where my interest truly lied until I began working.

Having previously worked in an MNC culture, this was my first time to work with a start-up. With millions of thoughts springing up in my head whether to take up this offer, I am grateful to have accepted it. My internship at ONN Bikes enabled me to closely look at the journey of entrepreneurs – how an idea in the mind of a novice can turn into a sustainable business.

While joining NMIMS Bengaluru, the only thought that would pop up in my head every now and then was "How would everything be in the corporate world?". Being a fresher, I never got the chance to experience the work culture or as people say "Corporate Life". The thought kept haunting me until I started my internship with Kotak Mahindra Bank, Kolkata.
