A kid born in 90’s would be obstructed with stuffs which he or she doesn’t know from where this products are created. Some of them are seeing a ultratech cement poster painted on a wall or trucks with ultratech logo moving in city. Growing with an only cement brand in mind and shopping in pantaloons with parents it never struck mind that both brands come under one roof which is Aditya Birla Group. I was gifted my first phone when Idea was changing everybody’s life which also led me to buy idea as my first sim card. After thinking on past experience which were imbibed in my memory, its surprise that how ABG’s product has being with my journey. Fascinated with tall buildings, long bridges I opted to become civil engineer, while working on first project after graduation ultratech cement trucks were coming in & out of the site. A kid with only cement brand in his mind never believed that the first project would be constructed of ultratech cement. In start of your professional career, when a salary starts pumping in your accounts a desire to buy quality brands cloths is always in your mind. I bought my first blazer from Louis Philippe which has special memories linked to it. Epitome of my life from kid to adult, Aditya Birla group’s products had direct impact on life which were always stayed with me during exultant moment of my journey.

A 12-year-old boy about to give his final exams, surrounded by his peers and worried about how will his paper be, will he be able to score well? And taking all the worries of the world. Suddenly, one of his friends asks him whether he has studied a particular portion in the subject and the boy is quaking in his boots. All his fears are coming true, he is imagining all the horrors that he will have to face, all the embarrassments, all the scolding and what not. There are just 5 minutes for the exam to start and the boy did not read that particular portion, and there is high probability that questions will come from that portion. The boy closes his eyes and thinks of one reason that will give him the confidence to face this petrifying exam and this naive 12 year old looks at the talisman that his mother gave him, thinks of the curd with sugar that he had in the morning, the “prasad” that he had in the morning, he stands up mildly believing that some thing will make all the gods work for him and that questions wont come in his question paper. Guess what? the questions didn’t come and he actually did well in the exams.

So, let me walk you through the most impactful day of my professional career. Before starting let me brief you on a few things. I worked with Deloitte for about 2.5 years and every year we celebrated a day known as ‘Impact Day’ organized by HR team. This day is Deloitte’s commitment to local communities. All the professionals spend the entire working day on one or the other social activities like teaching government school children, helping disabled people, cleaning the environment, planting trees etc. just like Aditya Birla group impacting many lives of people in many different areas like agriculture, retail, manufacturing etc.

If cricket is the national obsession of India as far as sports is concerned, then ensuring that their child takes up engineering is definitely the obsession of every Indian parent. Our country produces close to 15 lakh engineers every year. So, even though I was not forced by anyone to take up engineering, I chose engineering. I, like every ambitious person, focused only on developing my technical skills, but I could never realize the importance of having interpersonal skills. Interpersonal skills play a very important role in our lives. In a recent survey it was found that although 87% of new college graduates were confident that they were adequately prepared to succeed in the workplace, only 50% of hiring managers shared this optimism. Research also suggested that the area they were deemed to be most lacking in were soft skills, such as communication, leadership and teamwork. I sooner than later identified that this is that skill set for which I have never worked or even thought upon and it didn’t come out naturally to me, as it comes to some people. The knowledge of lack of good communication skills gave me the chance to utilize assets to my advantage and work upon its improvement, as lack of awareness would not only harm me but also the organization I work in. The prospect of understanding what are my growth areas and most importantly how to improve upon them was the most challenging thing by far. What turned out well was the ever increasing rate of cellular-based phones and internet penetration. When I had my first phone and took my first sim card, IDEA, I bridged the gap of being aware of my weak spot and doing tasks to improve it. IDEA and the phenomenal network it offered, helped me by mushrooming accessibility to people and work on my interpersonal skills. Among many, one of the ways it helped me was by making me more empathetic, empathy assisted me in addressing the needs of those around me. It also helped me in enhancing my listening skills, which in turn increased my ability to be an intent listener and further made my people skills better. Our general cultural climate seems to be one in which people are more concerned with expressing their points of view than trying to be receptive to listening and understanding different perspectives, but those people who listen and comprehend better make higher engagement with people in both aspects, professional and personal. Availability of internet and networking channel has made an unprecedented amount of information available to humans all over the world, so it enriched me also with an opportunity to excel in my knowledge content and put forward an intriguing concept while I have a conversation with people. Thus, improving my communication skills by finding ways to work upon them with the help of a medium, which worked as no other service provider did, was one of the most challenging tasks by far and I am grateful to the ‘ADITYA BIRLA GROUP’ for fulfilling it in an unparallel way.
