A for Aditya.. B for Birla....SIBM Pune

A for Aditya.. B for Birla....SIBM Pune

During my schooldays, I always used to love my History classes. Seems like an odd choice for a person belonging to a generation which grew up on Nintendo joysticks. My history teacher had a penchant for making the classes lively, and when we were living through Mahatma Gandhi's epic struggle for the cause of Bhaarat Maata, we were made to replicate the round table conferences which were held in London. The untapped business enthusiast in me always thought as to who provided the backing and support to the cause for our nation building. While trying to replicate the round table conference, I was fascinated to learn that Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla represented India at the two conferences. The name Birla stuck a deep resonance in me as it was in the erstwhile Birla House that Baapuji breathed his last.

Aditya Birla-The Dumbeldore of my life-SIBM Pune

Aditya Birla Group or as I would like to call the brand,Dumbeldore; has been that silent friend who weaves his wand and makes magic happen. Aditya Birla Group, for the longest time, has been like the white long bearded wizard who has made sure that all my life problems find a reasonable solution.  May it be the all important college interviews or the stress job interviews; Dumbeldore was always with me with his Peter England shirts and blazers. Or when I suffered injuries much like Harry was bitten by the snake, ADG’s Health Insurance worked as if it was the phoenix crying on my wound. When I plan to build my very own 4 Privet Drive, what better product to use than the best cement in the Country; Ultratech. Forever 21 and Planet Fashions helped me to make it up whenever I had a fight with my Rons and Hermoines.  ADG just like Dumbeldore, keeps seeing me in a broken piece of mirror; watching, observing and helping.

The Empire called Birla

The Empire called Birla

It was in Kolkata, a sodden morning of the rains. I was in sixth grade back then. The sudden heavy downpour interrupted my way back home from playground. I parked my bicycle and took shelter under a sunshade of what turned out to be a ceramic store. Waiting patiently at the same place I grew impatient and hence decided to take a look into what the store has to offer from outside. I saw many sacks full of cement stacked up inside; and majority of them had the name Ultratech Cement. I returned home and asked my father that why is a cement brand named Ultratech? It sounds more like a software company. My father replied that there is a lot of technological involvement in every product that is available. Hence, the word technology shouldn’t be limited to only software industry. The inquisitive me asked many more questions and didn’t give up until my father did. He was tired of answering my questions and the questionnaire ended by him asking me to write to the Birlas in case I have so many doubts. The moment he said that another question struck me. I had many friends who belonged to schools like G. D. Birla Centre for Education, M. P. Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School and Birla High School. The question was do all of these come under the same Birla family? This is one question I still have in mind whenever I see Birla in any brand name. The only difference now, thanks to Google, is that I do not need to irritate my father with my plethora of questions.

We all approach our life enjoying the unpleasant and sweet things alike. Harsh things generally give us a learning knowledge, showing us how we ought to get things done in a better way. Purchasing services and products too encompass the mixed circle of life. Only a few organizations offer such an amazing experience that we get hooked to their contributions in our daily life.

Believe in yourself, take on your challenges, dig deep within yourself to conquer fears - Ishita Gupta, NMIMS Mumbai

I belong to Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh which is a small town and my family doesn’t believe in higher education for girls. Along with these restrictions, I have completed my graduation from Jaipur, after which I worked in a consulting firm for 1 year and now studying in Mumbai for MBA. Reaching to NMIMS was a roller coaster ride with a lot of ups and downs. Firstly, convincing parents for MBA program was hard as they had planned all the wedding things in a year or two. It took lot of talking and explaining on why I need to go for post-graduation but at the end they listened and agreed to the fact that education is utmost important. Secondly, preparing for entrance exams along with job was the toughest one. There were times when I used to break down looking at the mock test results or when I was not able to attend the coaching classes. It was difficult to prepare for exams for there was a little work life balance due to office but my peers helped me a lot to get over it and work hard for the dream that I had. I worked in weekdays and studied in weekends but still I was not satisfied with my performance. That is when I decided to leave my job in September as I had my exams starting in October. I was very clear in my mind that I had to clear one of the good B-school this year only and here I am studying in NMIMS, Mumbai and I feel proud of my journey.
