Interview Experience At SJMSOM, IIT BOMBAY

I had my personal interview at SJMSOM, IIT Bombay on 6th March 2021. About two weeks before the interview, the Admissions Team intimated the candidates regarding the interview process. I was surprised and excited to see that the Admissions Teams was going for a unique interview process. It was on the Gather Platform. There the candidates could interact with each other as if they were in SJMSOM albeit in virtual mode. The Admission Team members prepared a YouTube tutorial video explaining all the features of Gather as well as the interview process. I must admit that this video was very helpful and informative. During the PI process, I interacted with my group members as well as our assigned group mentor and the experience was very much like the real one when a person interacts with a group of people.

Virtual Interview Experience At SJMSoM, IIT Bombay 2021 - Jay Navsare

17th of February, I received a mail from SJMSOM IIT Bombay (SOM) for being shortlisted for the Personal Interview round. That day brought a ray of hope that eventually became a full day of joy when I finally received the admission. I am a mechanical engineer graduate and had scored 98.69 percentile in cat 2020. I have a pretty average profile with 86-71-84 in academics from a non-branded college. I did have 20 months of work experience going for me, but my mentors had already crossed the IIT Bombay from the list of my dream colleges. So saying I was happy after receiving the call letter would be an understatement.

SJMSOM was my first interview call and needless to say it came with a lot of pressure. After having read multiple interview experiences and preparing from diverse topics to be very “interview-ready”, the day arrived. The entire process was set up on the Gather platform, something which none of the other colleges I got calls from did. It was incredibly efficient and gave us a feel as close to a real-life interview experience. During the whole process, the seniors who conducted the process were extremely helpful and clarified any queries we had (via Telegram and Whatsapp). The document verification and interviews happened simultaneously for separate sets of candidates, which pretty much reduced the wait time. Candidates were informed well beforehand about their status in the queue for the interview.
