My Journey Towards SJMSOM

My Journey Towards SJMSOM

I never believed in practice daily, but only that worked for me. I read articles, newspaper and books daily. I make sure I read at least 30 to 50 pages. This is how I cleared all my interview.

INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE AT SJMSOM, IIT BOMBAY - ARPAN ADAK

It was the 16th of February when I received a mail from SJMSOM – IIT Bombay which included elating news of me getting shortlisted for the Personal Interview Round. After getting rejected from the Top 6 IIMs, this came to me like a ray of hope to study in one of India’s top B-schools. Eventually, I gave my interview which went pretty decent and was offered admission. I am an Electronics Engineer and I joined SJMSOM as a fresher. I scored 99.41 percentile in CAT 2021 and I have a moderate profile with 95-91- 85 in academics. I was excited as well as stressed as I had a lot to learn. One thing that helped me as a fresher was that, I was in touch with my engineering concepts, so I was well prepared to answer them.

As I joined my interview slot on the gather platform, I was amazed to see the interface and creativity that adcom had put into making the online interview process as realistic as possible. We were asked to first sit at the respective tables and provided with the list of interview schedules and document verification schedules. The adcom member one by one led us to the respective interview or document verification rooms and the process was very smooth and everything went as planned. All the adcom members were very helpful in resolving any queries. When I  was in the interview room, I was first informed about the panel by an adcom member and was given interview feedback from the person who went in just before me, which was very helpful for me. When I entered the panel room I was welcomed with warm greetings by the professor. then I was asked to give a brief introduction about myself after which the questions were asked on that. The one thing I would like to mention is that various topics like ones from my ug, general awareness and some of my interest subjects, were touched and that too at a great depth. Some of those topics were the ones I included in my introduction but not asked about in my other interviews and when I was asked about them in my interview I was amazed. In the end, I felt very good cause most of my preparation was utilized in that interview. It was one of the most unique experiences that I had and I believe that's also what defines SJMSOM, its uniqueness.

Interview Experience At SJMSOM

Initially I was very confused as well as nervous , because my work ex was in entirely different industry as compared to my majors in my B.Tech and I was not sure that how will I be able to explain my change and also my reason to pursue an MBA while I was working in a startup. And also I was lucky that day , as the faculty from B.Tech wing of IIT Bombay was not present. I felt lucky because I literally was not sure about the B.Tech topics as it had been already almost 3 years since I graduated. My interview started with basic introduction , and in the start only I tried to direct my interview towards my latest job experience , that was in a E-commerce based startup. The panel also started to take interest in the same and the round of questions started related to the Startup world. The panel asked me about the different rounds of funding stages , what all problems we faced on the logistics and operations side. And also they asked the question that I was nervous about : Why did I switch from Maruti to Powerhouse 91. I think I was able to explain my sole reason that was I wanted a challenging environment and also that I wanted to chase the path of rapid growth rather than conventional growth. They also asked about my hobbies and interests and I think I was able to leave an impression in that front as well because I had represented my state in national level table tennis championship. And the interview ended with the panel understanding my reason to pursue MBA after experiencing working in a startup. The reason I wanted to pursue MBA was that I wanted to improve my skillset and develop more structured approaches.
