My name is Maharshi Nagori, and this is my interview experience for SJMSOM, IIT Bombay.
I am Y Naveen Krishna, GEM with 10 months of work experience in the IT Domain. I have secured a 99.07 Percentile in CAT’21 and got shortlisted for an Interview at SJMSOM. My Interview is on 06th March 2022, slot 2.
I appeared for the Personal Interview (PI) round for admission to the Master of Business Administration Program at Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay on 4th March 2022. Due to the ongoing Covid pandemic, the interview process was conducted online through Gather platform. This provided a completely different experience as compared to rest of the B-Schools which were conducting their interviews via Zoom or MS Teams. The Gather platform enabled us to experience the whole process virtually. We were assigned different tables on the basis of our interview panel and needed to enter different rooms for the interview and document verification by controlling a customizable 2D avatar. We all were assigned a buddy who guided us through the entire process.
The PI experience for SJMSOM is till date the most unique virtual experience I have had. They used this platform called ‘Gather’ which served as a virtual layout for interview venue. All the interviews were divided into groups and given their own panel numbers. On this ‘Gather’ platform, we could communicate with the person beside our virtual avatar through audio and video. Document verification process was also carried out in the same way. There was also an option of sharing our screen if required. The interview was carried out on zoom. I was among the first few candidates from my panel for interview.
The admissions team at SJMSOM made use of an online platform (Gather) which consisted of a 2-D map, letting you walk around and talk to the other people around you. I used to believe that the waiting period before online interviews is tiring and/or boring. The admissions team was super supportive and patient in dealing with the candidates. It was the closest one could get to experiencing an offline in-person interview. For me, this was the best part of the entire process.
