IIM. These three letters always fascinated me more than the other attractive three letters-IIT. It was due to this reason that I wasn’t dejected when I did not clear the IIT JEE in 2011. To be honest, I never toiled enough for it. My happiness knew no bounds when in 2011 IIM Indore started its Integrated Program in Management. Voila! That’s my thing, I thought. Exhilarated, I filled the form for the course. But my parents thought otherwise, and I never got to post the form.

My Journey To IIFT - Sitam Chaki's Story

Period - July 2013 Venue - Career Launcher, SRM University The instructor was briefing the students on the top B schools present in India and the various written exams for them. That was the first time I heard of IIFT. A point that briefly registered in my mind were the 3 people he named who had gotten into IIFT after enrolling at the particular training/coaching centre. All of them, he claimed, had received offers above 18 LPA in their final placements. The name, IIFT, was consigned to a corner of my brain to be visited later.

A year has already passed and here we are – the 2015-17 batch, most of us thinking about ‘this time last year’, when after having given most of our entrance tests and interviews, some of us were left in the state of embarrassment of riches, some of us had to make a choice between two equally good colleges and the rest of us had all hopes pinned on IIFT. For me, there were no hard judgment calls, to say the least. Admittedly, it was not something I had to ponder over much.

The Long Road To IIFT

It was early 2014. CAT results were out and I had managed a meagre 90%ile which obviously would not have allowed me to enter the top notch B-schools. I didn’t write IIFT that year because it had my biggest nemesis in the form of GK. I knew I couldn’t clear it and thus it occurred that IIFT was beyond my reach. But as they say, a small advice can change your life, it actually happened with me. Mission MBA 2015 was on.
