What MBA Really Taught Me – An IIM Lucknow Student's Perspective

What MBA Really Taught Me – An IIM Lucknow Student's Perspective

So it’s coming to an end. A journey that began as an obsession after hearing a relative’s son getting one of those dream placements (Yes, I too am a part of the crowd that came in with probably the sole purpose of getting a hefty pay cheque and a good brand on the CV :P). With just three months left, the nostalgia has already started setting in, so much that I dropped the idea of going back home in the term break and decided to spend some more time on campus. As I look back at the 18 odd months that went by, I can’t help but think of what I really learned here. Surely the 5Ps, GTM, PESTEL, and PORTER will help me survive those boardroom meetings, but it is some of the finer lessons that this place taught me which will help me flourish in life.

Why MBA Is Like T20 Cricket

Why MBA Is Like T20 Cricket

MBA like T20 cricket can be a glitz-edged invitation to innovate and improve. The pre eminence of the shortest format in cricket is no surprise, it yields results where the margins are even finer. Similarly, it is important to envisage the need to differentiate oneself while performing the sport of MBA. This is not for the fainthearted as our competitors are as competent and even factors like form and luck play an important part. The different parallels that can be taken from the nail-biting, topsy-turvy game to the churn of MBA are the following that can be abbreviated as "BE GAME":

It's OK To Be Different - A Take On Divergent Thinking

It's OK To Be Different - A Take On Divergent Thinking

I was asked by my teacher to choose an animal, as part of the class. The Creature that came to my mind was a Unicorn. Yes, it is a fictional creature with a magical horn and the white pristine feeling of purity and grace associated to it. Little did I know the animal that I was asked to think about actually reflected our character as per the teacher and it struck me on a personal note. That is why, I would advise that let no Muggles get you down, It's ok to be Different.

Musings Of A Recent IIM Trichy Alumnus And Student Team 2.0 Member - Aroop Sanyal

We present to you one of the rare opportunities on InsideIIM where we get to interact with a recent graduate from a b-school and hear about his or her experiences. Such an interaction is quite valuable especially from the point of view of the batch which is just about to graduate, since that would open up the opportunity to learn and be prepared to tackle the challenges due to transition from academic to corporate life, to understand the quantum change in expectations and working style, as well as to embrace the opportunities offered by the Corporate world by leveraging on the lessons from the academic world.

10 Fallacies Of Networking At A B-School

“Network like anything. Among them will be your business co-founders, your best friends, your lifelong colleagues, and maybe your life partners!” said a senior on the very first day of the college. Networking is indeed one of the most hyped things at an IIM. Its importance can never be questioned. However, there are some dark sides to it.

7 Things That Tell You The Other Side Of The MBA 'Coin'

This article (or story, as InsideIIM would call it) is for all those who have decided to do an MBA after reading all those awesome stories on InsideIIM and other websites. The awesome stories are more than enough in number that I need not add one myself. Instead, I want to show you the other side of the MBA 'coin', the side that is usually hidden from sight by the 'awesome' side of the coin. However, this is NOT to discourage you to join MBA. This post is also NOT a complaint or a rant or a judgement of what is right or what is wrong (this is subjective). Maybe many of my MBA peers might not like this article. However, some things in life are bitter but inevitable. Like medicines, for instance. And this post too. The aspirants must know the whole picture of what they are getting into. Here goes:

What I Learnt From Organising 2 Editions Of Manfest-Varchasva

It was the perfect birthday gift – getting into Manfest-Varchasva Core Team on my 21st birthday seemed like the best gift I could have asked for. Close to 10 days of rigorous selections, prioritising tasks, finally came this day when I knew my life at IIM Lucknow was going to become more exciting and enjoyable thanks to the 25 other individuals who I was soon going to call my family. Having spent every second of my life at IIM L up till 19th November, 2017 dreaming, breathing and thinking of Manfest-Varchasva, there are 5 Lessons that I learnt.

I declare that I have not been influenced or forced into writing any portion of the article based on anyone else’s opinion. The following account is true and honest to the best of my knowledge, I will try to take no sides in the article and cautiously try to provide valuable criticism to the topic. To be writing this article as a man might seem like I am trying to tell a narrative that is not my own, but do hear me out.
