If you're on LinkedIn, (you must be because you're looking at this!) you've definitely got one of those emails offering you a trial of LinkedIn Premium. I didn't really jump at it because I was apprehensive about providing credit card information. But one fine day, I decided to go ahead. I used one of my cards that would expire soon, and signed up. Yeah, you can call me a little paranoid about signing blank checks. They promised to remind me before my card would be charged. I didn't take any chances and set up my own reminder. To be fair, they did send an email to ask if I was continuing. But I had already cancelled by then.
There was a story I heard before joining IIM Kashipur, it goes like this.

IIM Ranchi, once again, reinforced its status as one of the best B-Schools in the country with the successful completion of the Final Placement process for the batch of 2014-16. This was the 5th year for its flagship PGDM programme and the 3rd year for a one-of-its-kind PGDHRM programme. A total of 171 offers were made on campus by the regular as well as the 35 new recruiters who visited IIMR this year. The number of PPOs and PPIs went up by 40%, indicating an exemplary performance by the students during their summer internships.
Sunil Kumar, a 25-year old engineer from Pune, is disappointed after a dismal show in CAT 2015, the entrance exam to the top tier business schools in India. He is one of the 200,000 plus aspirants vying for a seat in the top b-schools in this nation of 1.25 billion. When asked why he is inclined to do an MBA, he replies, somewhat irritated- “How else am I going to get a better job, I am stuck in the same profile for 3 years.” This is one of the myriad examples among the Indian youth, to whom a management degree has become an elixir guaranteed to ensure a rewarding career. And somewhere in the maze of these aspirations, the essence of studying management for the love of learning something new is on the way to becoming extinct.
A new dimension is emerging in India's Smart City Program- the Political Dimension; where the focus is shifting from implementation to who gets credit for the program. With the Center keen to ensure that it gets credit for this flagship program, there is a certain degree of wariness for non-BJP rules states that are moving ahead with the program rapidly. In particular, opposition party-ruled states like Odisha and UP are moving swiftly on the BJP Government's program.
