Final Placements : IIM Indore - Class of 2014

Final Placements : IIM Indore - Class of 2014

IIM Indore completed placements for what is possibly the biggest ever PGP batch to graduate out of an IIM. The number of 475 includes 30 odd students from the PGP batch at Mumbai as well. (This would come as a surprise to many and one wonders if the students from the flagship PGP at Indore campus protested against it.)

Urbanizing Indian Heritage Art and Developing Artisan communities- Meet Nishtha from IIM Lucknow

In a time of ambiguity when the nation is still grappling with economic crises, most of the graduates from India’s top management institutes search for safe havens during placements. However, only  few take the road less traveled such as Nishtha Singh of IIM Lucknow (IIM L) who has co-founded a social enterprise Adhya Crafts. Nishtha has set foot in the field of urbanizing Indian Heritage Art and developing artisan communities.

CAT 2014 results are out and undoubtedly what remains same is the hue and cry, which I was subjected to, a year ago. But what is always in flux is the pattern of CAT. Soon, a time would come when we will measure the complexity of CAT and the fairness of Prometric on year-on-year basis, just like any other index.

Final Placements: SPJIMR Mumbai - Class of 2014

Final Placements: SPJIMR Mumbai - Class of 2014

We are happy to note that SP Jain has provided placement data to us in the InsideIIM format. SP Jain has been publishing its final placement report, audited by CRISIL, in the IPRS format since 2011 (read the 2011 report here and the 2012 report here ). We were unable to find the 2013 report in the IPRS format. At InsideIIM, our view on the IPRS format is that although it provides an amazing level of detail about salaries, it suffers from a drawback because it does not incorporate profile information (i.e. the job profile for which the candidate was hired). We appreciate the forthrightness of SP Jain for reporting its placements in the IPRS format, but we also believe that the quality of job profiles is the most critical input while evaluating the placements at a B school. The InsideIIM placement report provides data on job profiles, and we are delighted to have this data from SP Jain from this year onwards. We hope this is the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship.

Everything you wanted to know about Bitcoin - a brilliant technological breakthrough

Everything you wanted to know about Bitcoin - a brilliant technological breakthrough

On Bitcoin, most of the world will usually fall into one of two opposing camps. In one camp are the technologists who comprehend the true nature and the full potential of this innovation. These are believers who unfortunately refuse to acknowledge any weakness in the Bitcoin system. In the other camp are complete naysayers - generally economists and finance guys, who are basically unable to comprehend the technological innovation of Bitcoin, and are content with making general disapproving noises about the concept. I will try to provide a balanced view, for which it is important to appreciate that Bitcoin is indeed one of the greatest-ever innovations in finance. It is definitely a lot cleverer than any of the theoretical bunkum taught in B schools' finance courses - capital asset pricing model, alpha, beta, Black Scholes Model, blah blah.
