The recent case of food poisoning at IIM Indore has been widely reported in the media and it takes me back to a basic issue I have with the way the mess system operates in most public education institutions in the country especially the IIMs. I have argued on this with a couple of professors too while I was on campus.

As we did for the 6 'Old' IIMs, we shall follow the same process for Top non-IIM Indian Business Schools. Most of these schools barring ISB are very old and are likely to have alumni in good positions in very good companies. It shouldn't be surprising if a lot of them have better alumni base across companies as compared to IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode. XLRI is the oldest which was established over 60 years ago. FMS and JBIMS are also 50 years old. SPJIMR is over 25 years old as well.
There is always a big number of aspirants who say they want to become an 'i-banker' without even understanding what it entails. In order to paint a pretty picture about their own business schools, there is always a race among the placement committees of hordes of business schools in India to get every possible job available in an i-bank. It is based on this basic insight that when someone reads the brown coloured newspaper pages no one understands the difference between a front-end job and a technology job and a middle office excel number crunching job.
