SJMSOM 2021-2023 Interview Experience - Shrikant Hajare

SJMSOM 2021-2023 Interview Experience - Shrikant Hajare

Before writing about my interview experience, I would like to give a brief introduction of myself. I am Shrikant Hajare and I completed my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Mumbai University. I did an internship at the Bhabha atomic research centre, Trombay and my final year project was “Solar Thermal Air Conditioning”. I am a fresher.

Many of the interview experiences are just nightmares to me just because of the lack of clarity and proper communication. I am normally anxious during an interview process and an ill-organized interview process only worsens the situation. Very few interviews are seamless and make it so easy and the interview process at SJMSOM, IIT Bombay this year has been the best experience for me. It was extremely well organized with crystal clear instructions and the admissions team has done a fabulous job in setting up the Gather platform which was so easy to use. The platform’s layout was clean, and the virtual tables helped me get a feel of a real interview process that helped calm my nerves. I believe the arrangement of virtual individual tables has made the process seamless because it was unlike other interview processes where all the candidates were put in a single waiting room which was both time-consuming and boring. Each table had a senior coordinator who helped the candidates navigate to the interview room and the document verification room. The entire experience feels refreshing as the platform was designed uniquely. It was nothing less than a virtual campus experience and the rooms were neatly laid out. Document verification was quick and interactive. I also got to interact with some members of the admissions team and they were very helpful. They greeted me well, sorted my queries and we also had fun conversations which helped me ease off my pressure and I was able to perform well in the interview. I appreciate the effort and planning of the admissions team of SJMSOM for giving me and most of the candidates a wonderful interview experience.

So, one day I received an email saying that I was shortlisted for the Personal Interview round at SJMSOM. And that moment felt so unreal, mainly because juggling with work and preparation for CAT had not particularly been that easy for me.

To appear for the SJMSOM PI process, a separate application is required to be filled along with the CAT score. Candidates get shortlisted based on the CAT score and overall profile. I got the communication from the Institute in the mid of February 2021.

How I Got SOM -- Interview At SJMSOM, IITB

Starting out as an MBA aspirant, few are aware of other colleges outside of the IIMs. You gradually come to know the other famed initials and the hype surrounding each one be it from peers or, as is increasingly common these days, from social media. It’s a process that can be best described as learning about the waterfall ahead from other fish swimming towards it with you. So here’s my part in helping inform future aspirants about my successful interview experience at one such b-school where I am an incoming student ( 2021-23 ), Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management -IIT Bombay. A few caveats before we dive in. You have to apply separately with your CAT score and you must have a 4-year degree. In my personal opinion the interview process at SJMSOM is the smoothest among all the online ones that I have attended. Everything is on time. The technology works. There is a well defined process for everything. The AdCom is on the top of their game. The contrast with the other B-schools is stark. It’s the difference between taking a train in Japan as opposed to one in India. If you feel I’m exaggerating then read ahead. The platfrom on which the entire process was centred around was Gather (https://gather.town/).
