In 2021, InsideIIM launched for the first time the E-Commerce Prodigy Challenge, an exclusive program to give India's top talent at business schools a flavor of Marketing and Growth Hacking in an E-commerce set-up. To participate, MBA students were asked to create a marketing strategy for their favorite E-commerce platforms. Amongst all the entries that came in from India's top talent, five stood out! Here is a glimpse into the marketing strategies formulated by Vaibhav Mangla, an IIM Kozhikode student who worked on improving the user experience for L’Oreal and increasing their customer engagement and conversion rate. I still remember the day which I still deem as one of the most crucial days of my life, when I was headed to JP Siddharth hotel via the blue line of Delhi Metro. The date was February 17th and the slot in the afternoon. I have always been terrified of group discussions, so it was a slight relief for me that CAP only comprised of written test and personal interview rounds. However, my percentile being on the lower side, I knew I needed to ace my interview to get through. To give a brief about my profile; I scored 94.44 percentile in CAT 2019 with all the sectionals above 90. I have done my bachelor’s in arts domain with honours in Statistics. I have completed my secondary and senior secondary education with 95% and 87.44% respectively. Being a fresher with no prior internships, I was a little skeptical of my candidature for an IIM.

After graduating from Manipal Institute of Technology in 2018, I worked as a Quality Assurance Engineer at voestalpine India for 7 months. With encouragement from my school friends, I quit the job to try my hand at establishing a pet services aggregator start-up as I believed that it was the best time in my life to take such a risk. Though the start-up did well initially, I soon realised that I needed more knowledge in the art of business administration and made a rather late decision of sitting for B-school entrance exams. This was back in July 2019 when I got primed to run the start-up into the ground and signed up for CAT/IIFT coaching classes. 8 months later I was sitting in front of a panel at IIFT ready to narrate my professional journey and hoping they would like it enough to let me in. As many of you would soon find yourself in a similar position, I would like to share that day’s experience to help you join the college of your dreams.

Let me introduce myself and take you through the journey of preparation and the experience I encountered during the MBA Analytics personal interview process. I am a Biotechnology engineer who has 20 months of experience in the education domain. I developed an interest in analytics from the internship experience during my under graduation. So I just took up a job that I love but also ensured to have sufficient time for preparation for my MBA.
