This part of the InsideIIM Recruitment Survey 2018 takes a look at the Dream Companies of India - brands we all want/ have wanted to work with at some point in our lives. These are companies which evoke the thought - "Yaar, idhar kaam karna hai."
I was about to commence this article with the title of “3 best courses at IIM Calcutta”. But the size of my sample space prohibits that. While these 3 may not be the best without doubt, they certainly are 3 wonderful courses that we students at IIM Calcutta are proud of and thoroughly enjoy.
A B-school has many more activities and experiences on the professional front apart from the academics, placements and case competitions. And like in all of these fields, competition is intense everywhere. It is no different when it comes to the year-end awards given by the institute. Apart from the awards given for brilliant academic performance, there are a few given for extracurricular achievements and leadership abilities. A rigorous process is followed, which includes nominations from the student community, followed by them voting for the selected nominations. The winning students are then felicitated by the institute during convocation.
In general, time flies. People say that all the time. But time truly does step on it at a B-school. You hit the ground running when you join one. There are no warm welcomes and no gentle easing. It is a frenetic burst of activity and competition in the first few months until summer placements. Only after that do you get breathing space. Even after that, life can be pretty hectic. It depends upon your B school. It can be an IIM-A at one end of the hectic spectrum and it can also be IIM-C, which is at the other end. But all B-schools unite when it comes to creating an almost unbearable hectic period around and before placements.
Diversity is a term that is very much in vogue these days. It is also a topic that can lead to heated discussions. It can also refer to many things. Diversity in gender, religion, caste, graduation backgrounds, economic status are just some of the ways in which modern society is trying to make a positive change.
This is an aspect of B-school that is always on a student’s mind. There is no denying that a major motivation of coming for an MBA is the ensuing placement. Many a time, we are told by alumni how the first placement is not the only thing that matters in the long run. Yet, we do take our placements quite seriously.
If I ask a random student walking on the street in India, what he wants to do in life, he would most likely say an MBA. Obviously, I would not do that in Mumbai; all I will get are abuses! The point being, everyone wants to enter a B-school and the reasons are obvious. But what happens inside this magical recruitment agency?
