After the taxi dropped four dusty figures on the Uttarkashi bus stop, we entered the designated place of accommodation only to discover that it surpassed our wildest imagination. Sadly, not for the better. The blankets smelled not-so-heavenly, the bedsheet had holes and a dismal yellow light flickered seemingly bemoaning our arrival. As we stood, slack-jawed by the door, the wind playing with our hair while river Bhagirathi went its way gurgling happily, we stroked our chin thoughtfully wondering what we could do to atone for this divine manifestation of old karmas.
I had written down the following article at the beginning of the IIFT's academic session which captures my journey in the initial few days. Any aspirant, when he/she joins a b-school will go through something like. My only advice to those joining this year will be to go with the flow, it may seem like a totally different world where you will have a motley of experiences – some sweet, some bitter and some even sour, but trust me, you will end up loving these days. So here it goes –
Many a time in life we spend an enormous amount of time and energy trying to fit in somewhere, we never aimed. I will not lie, but my stagnant career was the unpleasant repercussion of this very fact.
(Every campus has a set of building, architecture or culture that defines the institution. For IIM Bangalore, it's the 'Stone Walls'; but then, there is one more special wonder in this campus, it's beautiful streets surrounded by mesmerizing greenery. This letter is a tribute to those streets, not only in IIMB but also in the other campuses as well, which shows a path to thousands of lives, literally.)
