Late April 2018, Gurgaon:
You feel the luckiest when you get an opportunity related to your field of engineering coupled with the domain you are most interested in when you start your journey at a top reputed B-School. I interned at Solvay and the Project allotted was related to Market Research for the company’s product. The selection procedure started with a live case study problem related to marketing and then followed by personal interviews. Giving a brief about Solvay, it’s one of the most innovative companies coming up with advanced materials with a justifiable tagline “asking more from chemistry”, been the first partner for Solar Impulse 2 and coming up with materials to contribute in new areas such as hybrid cars and space exploration for NASA.
A large number of people are caught in the vicious cycle of giving CAT, they appear for it year after year but still, they are not able to succeed. I would like to talk about one such category of people and help them make better decisions related to CAT. The category of people in focus is the fresh graduates of tier 2 engineering colleges of India. There are many things which make them different from the rest of the CAT aspirants; generally the placement scenarios in these colleges are not very good and as a result, these students look forward to doing an MBA from the best colleges. Generally, they are looking for better job scenarios and a ‘better life’ in their new college. They start their CAT preparation either during the final year, some even start in their second year. During this time they get so engrossed with the hope of studying in the top IIM that they are not able to see the whole scenario. While some of them crack the CAT and get admission in b-school, they become the motivation for the rest of the people. While the people who fail to get admission are the one for whom this article is directed to.
“To nurture a learning environment, for the creation and dissemination of management knowledge by integrating global standards to develop leaders of enterprises who add value to society, and to be a partner in nation building.”- IIM Trichy
“The journey is never-ending. There's always gonna be growth, improvement, adversity; you just gotta take it all in and do what's right, continue to grow, continue to live in the moment” - Antonio Brown.
“Dreams can often become challenging, but challenges are what we live for -- Travis white.”
Most of the b-schools welcome the first year students through an orientation program which will not only help them to take their baby steps in management career but also lays a strong foundation stone for the students to come out in bright colours after their 2-year-old Journey. The b-school which i belong to, IIM Trichy provided us with a wonderful orientation program including guest lectures of prominent persons from top notch companies like Nissan, L&T, Mahindra&Mahindra etc.
The story of IIMs starts with IIM C and IIM A. Subsequently, IIM B, L, K and I were established before the year 2000. Then came IIM-S in 2007 and other new IIMs in 2010 & 2011. These IIMs include Rohtak, Ranchi, Raipur, Kashipur, Udaipur and Tiruchirappalli i.e. Trichy. So what is so special about Trichy?
