There are several practices that I follow to overcome challenges and keep myself motivated in the long run.
Being one of the oldest conglomerates in India is no mean feat. It takes a good product to make an instantaneous name for the organisation. But to thrive, not just survive, in not just one product line, not one segment, but in almost every segment from clothing to investments, mining to telecommunications, it takes a lot more than just good product knowledge and awareness. It takes vision. It takes adhering to values of the organisation when tough decisions have to be made. The commitment to stick to the values that have been in place since the establishment of the organisation, values that have been in vogue for generations. Being flexible to continuously changing demands, being adaptable to changing circumstances, both external and internal, enhancing the brand image, all the while adhering to the established values, doing this for over one and a half century is what makes Aditya Birla Group exceptional. There were a number of other organisations that started along with Aditya Birla Group but today, hardly any one of those has the multi-faceted presence in India and across the world that this one does.
A few years back, a nightmare woke me up at 3 am in the morning. That thought was “What am I doing with my life?”. I was in my early twenties following the herd mentality, doing what everybody else around me was doing, without creating any impact. What happened? Growing up, I always dreamt of creating an impact on this world and making it a better place. But at that moment I felt like I was changing nothing; just surviving.
Aditya Birla Group has become synonymous with luxury these days with Brands like Forever 21, Allen Solly, Pantaloons and many more. Gone are the days when the group’s core competency was restricted to a few segements. Under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Kumaramangalam Birla, the group has diversified into fashion, telecom, Financial Services, Metals while retaining it’s core competency which is the cement business. Aditya birla group touches more people’s lives everyday in more ways than one can imagine. To quote a few figures, Every second car in the world has a tyre which is made from Birla carbon, Every third aluminium can is made from novelis aluminium and Vodafone Idea is the world’s second largest telecom operator. However, despite such rapid strides the group still adheres to resposible business practises and at it’s core believes in stakeholder value creation.
The conglomerate, Aditya Birla Group touches lives of millions of individuals in India and around the world. So has it mine. With products spread across diverse sectors, ranging from textiles to telecom, cement to finance, it plays an important role in individual’s lives as well as economy as a whole.
Challenges are the staircase to engagement and progress in our lives. We all have challenges. We have to face them, embrace them, defy them, and then conquer them. Challenges bring out the real version of ourselves, they chisel us and helps us shine brighter.
We, humans, have evolved from thousands of years. Evolving, improving, adapting day by day year by year and are still evolving. Evolution didn’t happen in the course of a few years or a few centuries as a matter of fact. Every day, every minute we as humans found something extraordinary in ordinary and constantly improved ourselves. Similarly, the key to success is improving, adapting and most importantly finding something extraordinary in the ordinary.
