Hi, I am Riddheish Seth, and this is my story.
A few months ago I was a fresher pursuing MBA and eagerly waiting for the first corporate experience. My summer internship #Octane2018 at Bajaj Auto Ltd was more than what I had imagined. It transformed me into a person entirely, all thanks to the learning and collaborative culture at Bajaj. I was allowed to take decisions independently with a good amount of responsibilities at such an early stage of my career. I was allowed to fail and improve, which has helped me in doing my project in a better way. Managerial capabilities were explored at it's best. Everyone helped and guided me towards my final goal and soon I became a part of the Bajaj family. Special thanks to my mentor and the team members who helped and motivated me throughout the journey.
When I began my MBA journey, I was quite perplexed about the direction in which my career should steer. Determining what job function, role or company I should aspire to during my search for a summer internship seemed like a mammoth task. An internship is that beginning of a career when we are so eager to apply everything you’ve learned in a real job. However, with my past experience in the automotive sector as R&D engineer, I wished to explore it more. Also, I wished to step out of my comfort zone.
I still remember it was during the time when I along with few of my batch mates were busy challenging each other in the game of table tennis in our college common room that I got a call from the placement committee. I was informed that I was given an opportunity by ‘CP Milk and Food Products’ as a Brand Management Intern in Gyan Dairy for a period of 10 weeks. Though I had already done a thorough research about the organisation and the responsibilities as a brand management intern, being a fresher, I still wasn’t certain if I would be able to give my best and add a value to the organisation. After 3 months, Here I am, getting back to my college as a refined person, with a bag full of enthralling moments and a lot of learnings and experiences.
Whenever I look back at my first year at TISS, the one word that always comes to my mind is…summers! Every now and then, I think of how it all began with the official batch photoshoot: me and my batchmates dressed in sombre suits, grinning ear-to-ear, clueless about where we would get placed or how challenging the journey would be. Before long, we were rushing from class to Pre-Placement Talks, reading up on companies, resisting the urge to bunk lectures because who knows what might come in handy for our summer project?
They say internships create a foundation for a successful career in an organisation. But mine went a step further and created a launch pad which shot me right into the sky among the busy stars! My two-month stint at Bajaj Auto was a journey full of excitement, exuberance and emulsification under the continual guidance of senior leaders and the HR team.
Internships are the first milestone in the journey of MBA where we get to experience the corporate culture and get a chance to put our learnings in the first year of MBA to practical use. We were very much excited and enthusiastic about our internships. W,e wanted to utilize, this opportunity to our, fullest and, soak in the fulfilling and enriching experience. It is surely a roller-coaster ride. So here is, my internship journey!
