It was a sunny morning, my first outside India. And as I woke up to open the windows of my hotel room, I could only feel a stream of hot air getting sucked inside penetrating my face. From “Why would people even live in this part of the world, let alone do business” to “Why would anyone, not want to do business here,” the International Immersion Program enlightened us about the practical aspects of business in the Middle East. Thanks to IIM Visakhapatnam and its faculties for facilitating such a course.

June 22, Day 1, a simple guy walks into the mess of a management school, with two bags on his shoulders, dragging a third behind him and the fourth lying on the gate. Has himself registered as a student at the school for the next two years of his life and gets a room number and a roommate he has to share his room with. He has no clue where his room is and so a senior, ever so humbly proposes to help him carry his luggage. While on the way the curious students ask the dos and don’ts of the place. The only reply he gets is to never mess with the professors (well that’s comforting).

On 8 November 2016, PM Modi announced on national TV that currency notes of Rs 500 and 1000 cease to be a legal tender from midnight. The reason that he gave in the very elaborate speech was to curb the menace black money, fake notes and funding to terrorist groups. As per the arrangements made by RBI, new notes of Rs 2000 and 500 were printed, old notes were mandated to be exchanged by 31st Dec. However, every dark cloud has a silver lining. And once we start looking beyond our disappointments, we might just be able to figure out how to make the most of such 'bad decisions' that we make. For me, 'Engineering' was one such bad decision and following is the story of how I created the silver lining amidst my dark clouds.
