Sylvia Plath wrote The Bell Jar in 1963, but the fig tree extract from the novel is as relevant to management students as ever. The protagonist sits under a fig tree, and each fruit represents a possible perfect future that one may choose. However, choosing any single one means giving up on all the rest. So one puts off choosing a fig for as long as possible, as they dry up and fall to the ground, one after the other.
The institution of media is an effective tool for mass communication, telecasting information at real time basis to ensure seamless sharing of recent happenings across the globe. At a time, when the world is transforming into a global village with hardly any geographical and cultural constraints, the world of media is witnessing a huge surge in the viewership and acceptability. And this significant increment in the rating scale and scope of the industry have given a rise to some grave ethical and moral concerns that seems to blur the thin line between reporting and influencing.
My personal feeling is that understanding evolution led me to atheism.
At 1 pm local time on August 3, 2016, an Emirates Airlines plane crash landed at Dubai airport after catching fire, mid air and burst into flames shortly thereafter.
Google Mahatma Gandhi and one finds 19,800,000 results about the father of the nation, few pages praising his spirituality, few doubting his credibility, few admiring his ideals and a few absurdly accusing him of partitioning the country, not taking violent means to speed up the independence of India etc. A look at him shows the vulnerability of his frail body, his rather small appearance but keep searching and you find the determination reflecting on his face and perseverance in his stance, leading India with a walking stick. Looking through these results will make you wonder what made him amongst the greatest person to have walked down this planet.
