The Different Flavours of Consulting

The Different Flavours of Consulting

We continue the consulting series with realistic job previews of various consulting roles, describing what a B-school campus recruit at the associate/consultant/senior consultant level can expect from such roles. Pardon me if the actual job descriptions sound somewhat quotidian, unremarkable and deglamorized, for that is exactly the idea – to get to the meat of the job and see what it tastes, rather than ruminating over every company’s banal PR spin about its unique work culture. Basically, All consulting recruits from campus can expect a mixture of project work and business development (BD) support work.

The InsideIIM Entrepreneurship Series – Interview with Vijay Prabhat Kamalakara, Founder – Storytrails

Consulting - A Primer

Consulting - A Primer

Most students respond to job market trends by changing their innermost convictions and long-term career goals with the slippery ease of a chameleon. The consulting industry is one such beneficiary of a structural shift in aspirations. Banking was brought down to its knees in 2007, and it continues to be in limbo, with companies like UBS, Bank of America, HSBC, Citigroup announcing major job cuts across service lines and especially in investment banking. Management consulting, on the other hand has remained fairly insulated from all the bad news about the economy, and has emerged as the preferred option for India’s best and brightest. Here’s a primer on the consulting industry, the types of consulting firms, pros and cons of working in a consulting firm.

The InsideIIM Entrepreneurship Series - Interview with Rajesh Kumar B, founder – Focus Academy for Career Enhancement

Everyone dreams of risking it all and winning, but few actually try. Many of us keenly admire risk-takers from a safe distance - from the (imagined) safety that a salaried job begets. A country that has invented so much in the past can definitely do with a few more risk takers in the future. And among the population, MBA grads from blue chip B schools are a privileged lot - they have something to fall back on when their venture fails.
