MBA. A degree that speaks of hopes and dreams for many people. Each wanting to carving out their own identity into this microcosm. Some try, some work hard, some win and some are able to realize the dreams they had. Few are those, privileged are those. And behind the façade of achievement, is an average Joe, who like you and me, worked in silence, slogged and made it big.
When Rajan said, “You’re so lucky to have bagged a PPO from Unilever”, I gently nodded my head in agreement, but deep down I knew that it wasn’t just luck. It was luck meeting the meticulous execution of an ardent marketer’s dream. A dream that I had envisioned close to a year back. A dream that fuelled me to do my best, a dream that made me out perform, a dream that came true. Today, as I see scores of freshmen ablaze with the fire to crack summers at the doyens of marketing world (HUL, ITC, P&G, RB, Nestle, Marico, among others) I feel the need of sharing my preparation journey with them. What follows is months of planning penned down into a brief set of words, here it goes:

Before we begin with this company analysis, for MBA aspirants who are not privy to the features of the Consulting domain, it is recommended that you acquaint yourself with the same. Resources you can use to do this are:
You wake up on Day 0. The day when the most coveted jobs on campus are on offer. Unlike other days, you don’t even need an alarm to wake up. Excitement is running all through you. You have your shirt ironed out. The elegant navy blue (or black) suit ready. Shoes polished and shining. Your first day as a banker. You suit up and start walking. Your chest a little broader than usual today. No fear, no anxiety, no nervousness. You walk in confidently to sign your agreement. In the next 5 mins, you walk out of the placement room with a job. No interview. No questions. It is all smiles and you are among the first ones in your batch to get placed. Sounds like a dream right? Well it does feel like a dream too. But whether you live this dream or not depends on how you handle yourself on the Bank Day!
It is that time of the year where the first years start getting immersed into the B-School experience. After months of anticipation, it is time to live the dream for an entire new set of geniuses. The chosen few from the millions who get this opportunity. As the senior batch welcomes all of you to this new adventure of your life, you already have very little time to even breathe. I am sure most of you are already taking decisions between a morning shower v/s breakfast and between sleeping at 1:00 a.m. v/s heading to the night canteen in hope of some renewed vigour to study through the night. Amidst all of this, you are faced with the mother of all decisions; The 1-page CV! It seems quite intriguing as to how much time a person can spend behind preparing a 1-page document for Summer Placements. If you were asked this question before you came to your B-School, not more than 15-20 mins is what you would say. Worst case let us go with 2-3 hours. This sounds quite logical too. But if logic ruled the entire life, half of the courses at a B-School (especially those dealing with behaviour and psychology) would not exist!
