February is well upon us. The winter chill is receding, the fun and frolic of night-time is moving away from the confines of cosy hostel rooms to terraces and the open spaces outside tuck-shops. Students are finally shedding wolf-skins, furs and other garb better suited to Himalayan expeditions and daring to walk to class without looking like creatures on their way to hibernation.
TAPMI has placed all the 391 students (Batch of 2013-15) this year achieving the much coveted 100% target. The placement process saw open doors from 103 companies across the country. A rigorous selection process that included elementary screening, group discussions and personal interviews was demanding of the students, as they worked relentlessly to prove their mettle. The average take home for the batch went up to Rs. 8.70 lakhs from the last years amount of Rs.8.41 lakhs. The highest domestic offer was made by Microsoft at Rs 14.55 lakhs. The number of pre-placement offers received this year by the students is 18. The placement also included one international company that hired 2 students with a package of Rs.15.00 lakhs.
Indian Institute of Management concluded its placement season for the 6th batch. The highest package offered was Rs. 21 LPA which was in the consulting domain.
Indian Institute of Management, Shillong successfully completed its summer placement season and continued to show a positive trend despite an increase in the batch size.

While the year has been generally good everywhere and salaries are bound to increase on each campus, there are certain things I believe are fundamentally wrong with b-school placements. These are not specific to any campus but for the process in general.

IIM Calcutta blazes away with another impressive year when it comes to Summer Placements for the junior batch. We have been covering Summer Placements at IIM C for 4 years now. It is amazing to see the consistency in bagging the top notch roles every year during summer internship hiring. Summer Internship hiring is more important at IIM Calcutta because most of the students in Consulting and many in banking get final offers soon after they return for the 2nd year to campus. This year the PPOs/PPIs have been raining across campuses but things are merrier at campuses like IIM Calcutta! Don't be surprised if almost 1/3rd of the batch gets offers just based on their summer internships. Reputed recruiters have already made job offers to almost all the students who expect to graduate with their PGDM in March 2015. The average salary offer is higher than last year. GIM is confident of achieving a 100% placement by the end of the placement season, and with significantly higher placement remuneration. HSBC, Wipro Technologies, J P Morgan, Infosys, Cognizant, Deloitte, KPMG, Wipro Consumer Care are some of the marquee companies that have already hired from the batch.
