There is a reason why one of the authors on this website somewhere mentioned that in India, it's still IIM ABC and the rest. Especially, when it comes to placements. Talks of a slowdown seem difficult to believe if one just glances through the kind of companies and the roles offered at IIM Bangalore for internships in the summer of 2012.
Unfortunately, we need to start this report with a very basic disclaimer : The below data has not been verified by XLRI Jamshedpur's Placement Committee. Despite, repeated emails and a few calls there was no response. Hence, there could be a lot of discrepancy in the data but we have tried our best.
As far as summer internship opportunities go, Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi is the place to be. Not only are there opportunities across different functions and sectors but also the relatively smaller batch size increases one's chances of being in some of the top companies in India and the world. FMS Delhi has had a terrific season and there are brilliant opportunities in every domain.
Summer placements begin. A renowned FMCG powerhouse is one of the first companies to visit campus. Obviously, every dreamy-eyed management fuchcha /fuchchi has his/her eyes set on the “prize catch” – great company, great profile, worthy stipend; in short, a CV booster. And then follows the same process of burning the midnight oil, mugging up marketing fundas (the ‘one-night stand’ with Kotler!).

First year Bschool students all over India are busy dusting their shopping bags, looking around the job marketplace, and deciding what fancy brands to handpick and apply for; which ones to aggressively aim for and make sure they have in their kitty at the end. It isn’t very different from a supermarket, in that you set out with a shopping list, but are dazzled by what’s on display, and often come back with things you’d never set out to shop for in the first place! (Do I see many second year-ites nodding their head vigorously?)
