This summer, MBA students across the country saw a very different picture than what they had previously. With the pandemic forcing everything to shut down, physical internships were out of the picture this year. Many companies froze their internships, many deferred, and some even canceled. With things going on pretty haywire for these interns, the sigh of relief came to this year’s Tata Steel interns when they saw their joining mails. Amidst all the difficulties, Tata Steel went on with taking in all the interns it had promised an internship. In this episode, we look at the internship experience of Nitya Aman Bhagat from TISS, Mumbai, and Mayurakhee Dutta from Xavier University, Bhubaneswar at Tata Steel.
Across sectors, HR as a profession has seen a massive added responsibility in the COVID world that we are living in. From making sure that the employees are in their best state of mind to continue work from home, to understanding the individual’s professional requirements to overcome challenges while working, they had to keep an eagle’s eye on everything. Three of the ABG HR group interns, Amin Kavan Pragnesh, Shweta Jain, and Shyamlee Lokhande discussed their journey at ABG, their projects, what their learning during this work from home internship has been and how they think the future HRs should prepare for the post COVID world! Amartya realized early in his life that something about him was different from his other friends. He went on hiding his emotions and sexuality for years, till he got posted as an engineer at Tata Steel in Jamshedpur. He started meeting gay men thanks to a dating app in Jamshedpur and that is when he came to know more about his sexuality. His idea about the LGBTQ community got further shaped up through various interactions within the Tata Steel Group, which gave him courage to finally come out of the metaphorical closet.
Imagine working in the same company for 9 long years in an age and time where everything comes with an expiry date. This is what Varun’s relationship with the FMCG behemoth Nestlé has been like. Varun Sethuraman joined Nestlé right out of SPJIMR. A marketing graduate, Varun took up challenging roles within Nestlé in the first year of his Management Trainee stint. From there grew manifold within the organization. Category and Channel Head of Nestlé West India, Varun currently is in a Trade Marketing role. Varun takes us through to his career trajectory within Nestlé in this video, mapping his time and learning within the company.

This summer internship season, that's exactly what summer interns Neha Sharma from IIFT Delhi and Niharika Jain from IIM Raipur faced during their stint with Tata Steel. Jagriti did Biotechnology and with very little knowledge about the MBA world, she started preparing for the B-school examination. And with a tinge of hard work and a lot of confidence, Jagriti made it to one of the top management institutes in the country; IIM Ahmedabad. It is at IIM Ahmedabad that her love for marketing started and when it was time for her to join Nestle, that too happened all of a sudden. Spending over 8 years at Nestlé, working with the god of brands Maggi, Jagriti has now become a true blue marketeer holding hands of the worlds’ largest FMCG brand.
