XLRI- Xavier School of Management, India's No. 1 Private B School, will be hosting “SYNERGY 2016” – its Annual Operations and Strategy symposium. The symposium will be held in its Jamshedpur campus on 6th November, 2016.
The Management students at the Faculty of Management Studies – University of Delhi (FMS-Delhi) broke the stereotype of MBA being all about case studies and academics by forecasting 2016 US Presidential Elections.
At some point in life, all of us would have thought of giving up what we are doing to “start a business”. Imagine that you are in the midst of the chai-sutta-snacks routine outside your office. Out of the million little conversations that happen, you surely must have had this one. “Yaar, this chaiwaalah must earn more than us. I wish I could open something like this outside an office. It will definitely pay better than this job.” (Please Note: The conversation has been heavily cleaned up, for the sake of political correctness).
The millennials or generation Y are a different breed altogether. They are grouped in the 18-34 age categories of the workforce. They are very different in their outlook, in their aspirations, in their skill levels, in their energy and above all, their approach to general life. Their expectations from the organisation are different. For them, work-life balance is not a matter of choice but it is an inherent part of thinking.
The debate around management – ‘whether it is an art or a science’ has been there since ages. It would be surprising if one does not come across any session dedicated to this topic during their MBA education. But isn’t there a way to look beyond or think differently? While pondering over this question few days ago, I realized that there is no need to look far for an answer.
IIM Trichy hosted a guest lecture on "The role of a CFO in the manufacturing sector" by K. Chandrasekhar, Chief Financial Officer of Dalmia Cements. Mr. Chandrasekhar has over twenty years of corporate experience. The guest lecture was organised as part of the Insight Guest Lecture Series which aims to give students opportunities to interact with experts belonging to various industrial domains. The lecture series attempts to integrate theory and practice and heighten the business sensibilities of the students.
Interning with a start-up involves loads of challenges and to solve those challenges we use our learning to come up with innovative ideas. My internship experience at NewsBytes was a similar affair where my team had to devise a marketing strategy for a mobile news application.
