The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), since 2016, has undertaken a project of establishing rankings for educational institutes in India under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) at the graduation and post-graduation level, including management institutes. Recently, the NIRF MBA Rankings 2019 have also been released by the MHRD.
IIM Calcutta beats IIM Bangalore. IIM Lucknow loses out to both FMS and XLRI Jamshedpur. ISB and NMIMS see a massive drop. Second generation IIMs still have miles to go before they break into the top tier.

KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research and FORE School of Management are two good tier-2 colleges in the country. Every year, aspirants aim for IIMs and other tier-1 colleges. However, due to the sheer number of people giving these exams, some are not able to make it into these dream B-Schools.

After I had a look at the rankings, my first reaction was of confusion, which then turned into that of scepticism. I immediately went on to LinkedIn to see what the reaction of various Alumni was to these rankings. I came across a few people questioning the discrepancies between the NIRF rankings and those done by other agencies. So, after 5 years of swatting away requests for a ranking from our users, we have finally given in. We did a simple thing. We asked our users - only those registered as CAT/MBA Aspirants on the platform to tell us how desirable each of the 48 of India's top business schools is on a scale of 1 to 100.
Since March our helpline - 'Eklavya' has been flooded with queries on choosing business schools. A lot of them quote rankings published in various popular media and on other management education portals. We just thought about having some fun and went about looking at rankings published by media houses with maximum reach and their methodology.
