When I started preparing for CAT 2014, I knew little about the exam. I did not know many colleges either - just your regular IIMs and XLRI (and of course, TISS which I had set my heart on). My entire journey was one where I discovered new things each day - things about the CAT, about this race to win, about the college, about the people, and most of all, about myself. I also learnt, in retrospect, what not to do in the last leg of this journey.

One of the major headaches or roadblocks for CAT aspirants is how do they cope with different exams and alter their exam preparation accordingly as each exam tests a different skill of the aspirant. The mega exam is obviously The CAT but it has exams centered around it. Aspirants have a single-minded focus for CAT and in case of a bad performance in the CAT since it is so ambiguous they are unable to adapt to the other exams and hence have nothing to show for their hard work at the end of the year. Hence preparation needs to be altered accordingly to fit everything.

I remember two years ago sitting there on the usual last bench of my classroom supposedly learning electronics and telecommunication engineering, having no idea what I was doing with my life or where it was actually headed. The placement season was about to begin and I lacked the motivation to actually prepare for an IT job. Our beloved Sanghamitra ma'am suddenly walked in. She looked angry and not her usual happy self. Then followed an hour-long verbal bashing for all of us and the crux of the matter was "Please buckle up! Do something about your lives. You all are better than this". That somehow clicked.
