Recently, we had sent an email with a logical reasoning puzzle with discounts promised to those who solved it correctly. Though this puzzle doesn’t explicitly test concepts in Number Theory, solving it will require the use of concepts which will help you eliminate some cases, thereby easing the process of solving.
Every journey and decision once embarked upon or taken should be visualized as a challenge. Mr. Ratan Tata once said that there is no such thing as a perfect choice when it comes to deciding a path to follow, it is what we make of that path that really matters. Things thus eventually and inevitably align and even out in life. As a management aspirant, the process of appearing for the CAT exam, clearing it with a breakthrough percentile and making it through the interview processes of the best schools is not only an intense experience but also an essential test that nurtures the spirit of hard work and competition.
'Damn it', I swore loudly as I woke up in the middle of the night to pull my comforter over me but could not sleep. I sat up confused and let my mind drift back from the dreamy imagery to the reality of my dark room. It was raining again. Again!? I got up and went out to the balcony, stood at a corner of it, mere inches away from the loud rains, extended my hand to touch the falling raindrops, saw the rains falling at a distance on the greens of trees and mountains and was taken back into the land of surreal imagery with my eyes wide open.
Talk about women empowerment. The time is now! A few days back, I read an article in the newspaper on companies increasingly institutionalizing initiatives to retain women who take a break in their mid-30s. In India, at least 4 out of 10 women give up their careers by the age of 30, largely due to familial reasons including maternity leave. To control attrition at this level, companies such as Infosys and SAP Labs have come up with apps to engage with women during their maternity leave. Apart from these, there are several start-ups such as Sheroes that are offering part-time, flexible job opportunities for women who want to return to the workforce. While I was exploring all such alternatives, somewhere deep within me was this desire to pursue an MBA. It gives me immense pleasure and pride to say that IIM Calcutta, too stands in this league of institutions who has given me this wonderful opportunity to fulfill my dream.
Fewer people seem to be taking the CAT each subsequent year, and, as this article points out the reasons for this seem sound enough.
My journey to IIM-L encompasses an entirety of 21 years – a shorter period than what most of the people here have experienced. And in this short period I have managed to have a few remarkably bizarre experiences and a few other clichéd ones.

For my husband and I, applying to business school was a mutual decision – and coming to IIM Calcutta was a journey we decided to embark on together.
