It is June and I am getting the most awaited chance of winning my first wish from the tooth fairy, on the 10th of the month, after my tenth birth anniversary on 23rd May; while many of my cousins have either lost half their milk teeth or have a full-grown permanent set, this is just a beginning for me and a voice inside chirps, “Better late than never!” Days passed and so did June, every year.
After all the hustle, clearing the competitive examinations, going through the rigorous GD-PI process, we all undergo a mental fight when it comes to finally choosing a b-school. Selecting a b-school is quite a major decision as it decides not only the next two years of your life but this decision has a great impact on your professional as well personal life. The more you talk to people to take suggestions, the more you get confused. Surely every person is different and so are their preferences and judgements while making such a decision but there are some points which one must keep in mind before coming to a conclusion.
So you have decided that MBA is for you but it might seem as though getting into b-school is too difficult a road to traverse. The unrelenting assault of DI and LR in CAT, verbal dizziness brought upon by a 'serious case' of paragraph jumble and the unfortunate dilution of the quantitative section to set the deck against engineers: it might seem as though you don't have what it takes to get yourself an MBA from premier b-school. This is exactly what you need to forget about getting that coveted call from your dream b-school. What you need to remember and understand before you venture into this phase of your life are your strength and weakness and by that, I don't mean whether your quantitative ability is weak or your inability to crack LR. These are the symptoms of your problem, not the problem. I want you to look for something more fundamental about yourself that you want to work on to get to your dream b-school.
‘Do… or do not. There is no try.’ These are Yoda’s words of wisdom ingrained in the brain of every MBA aspirant. And I was no exception! But Yoda smacked me across the face with failure time and again. For me, the 3-year journey to XLRI was more an experience than an achievement.

I still vividly remember that day, preparing for my engineering entrance exams, I needed a break and had gone out for dinner with my family and I had told my mom ” I may not get a top college for engineering, but I am going to do my MBA only from an IIM!”, and here I am five years later, sitting in my hostel room in of one of the best MBA colleges in India and writing this article. It has been a long journey, full of ups and downs, but worth every effort.

As the sky grew deeper into the shades of night with the stars lighting up the city with their smile, I walk a lonely road shining under the magnificent canvas of the heavens. As the wind blows through my hair with the fragrance of the flowers filling up my lungs I embrace the silence of the woods. Walking down the moon-kissed roads of IIM Bangalore, I climb my mountain of memories. Memories that make me ride on the clouds of confidence and dance on the flames of faith.
