IIM Ranchi Celebrates Diwali with "Joy of Giving"

The student community at IIM Ranchi has come up with a novel way to spread smiles this Diwali. Samarpan, the CSR Club of IIM Ranchi has initiated "Joy of Giving ~ Fulfil Wishes, Gift Smiles" . The club members seek to fulfil wishes of 1) students at Kshitish School for differently abled children 2) the cleaning, security, mess and driving staff at IIM Ranchi hostel They went about asking wishes to each student and staff member and came up with two brilliantly decorated wish trees- "Wish Tree for Kshitish"- consisting of wishlists of students of Kshitish school a school for differently abled (Deaf & Dumb) children "Wish tree Sahayak"- Sahayak means 'The one who helps'. Thus, this tree has Wish List of those people who 'help' us in making our time here at IIM Ranchi a little easy either 'by cleaning our rooms and toilets' or 'by looking after our 24*7 security, irrespective of the weather' or 'by preparing our daily meals', or bridging the gap between college and hostel, i.e., the HOUSEKEEPING staff, the SECURITY staff, the MESS staff, the BUS DRIVERS. The students seek voluntary contributions to help these wish trees grow, to bring a smile to faces of those not so lucky as us, and to celebrate this Diwali with a difference. Away from home, missing family, sweets and pleasantries, the students yet take an effort to bring happiness into the lives of other families by fulfilling their wishes in a humble manner. They urge you to make any desired contributions by filling out this form: https://goo.gl/bX2bbZ Wishing all a Happy Diwali and a prosperous year ahead!

Conserving Energy...Lets do it the HR way

Conserving Energy...Lets do it the HR way

Being managers and rational individuals it becomes imperative or should we say a prerequisite to be efficient and prudent enough such that energy is conserved in the defined form that we think of - electricity, fossils, nuclear, hydro, and even renewable energies. Saving over a passage of time can equate to producing. But as important it is to nurture and save these, equally important is to look at the abstract form of energy present in human resources that needs to be channelized from getting lost.

A Young Man With Entrepreneurial Mission And Social Vision Is Changing Lives Of Hundreds Of Tribal Women In Odisha

Vat Vrikshya is a social enterprise  that works with marginalized women and communities who have been traditionally neglected and under resourced. The VV Team works with tribal communities across eastern India , often travelling at some risk to rural areas where outsiders may not be welcome for political and religious reasons. The founder,Vikash Das, was born and raised in Odisha - the tribal predominant state and this is precisely the reason that got him started. Life is even tougher for tribal women who often face discrimination because of their gender and tribal status. Since most men are prone to indulging in various forms of addiction, women are at the helm of family affairs , compelling them to seek formidable choices to make their ends meet. In such undesirable situations , so as to provide some solace for their social, economic and civic empowerment in tribal dominated region of Odisha, Vat Vrikshya was formed. Vikash's philosophy has always been to encourage women to be in charge of their own change process. In a small town of Odisha, generations are brought up ingrained with the belief ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which translates to ‘The world is one family’. Yet, social discriminations exist in the same vicinity. In order to overcome such social discriminations and help the underprivileged,Vikash decided to quit his corporate job and work with underprivileged and marginalized tribal people. "The root causes of persistent poverty in India lie at the complex intersection of structural factors and paterns of socio-economic  exclusion."The goal of our work is to address persistent poverty by empowering socially marginalized groups by strengthening networks across the tribal communities in the company. These tribal belts are the country's clusters of poverty"- says Vikash.
