I catch myself trying to grab any opportunity I might get to talk about my internship but this is only because I gained a mountain of knowledge from that experience. This summer, the summer of 2020 when the world was tackling a global pandemic, I got the opportunity of interning with one of the leading multi-nationals in B2B Food Services – Compass Group.
The key to bag a summer internship in your preferred role is to wait patiently and have the faith and confidence that eventually you’ll surely get one. I did the same and finally got an internship as a Business Research Analyst in Nabler. The whole recruitment process comprised of three rounds-assignment submission, group discussion and personal interview and I successfully aced all three of them. The actual duration of the internship was three months, however due to postponement of my 2nd year classes due to the covid-19 outbreak; I extended my internship to 4 months.

I was happy and excited. I didn’t waste a minute before checking out the location of the offices. I hoped to be located in Bangalore. I started dreaming about all the meet-ups I would have and the people I will meet in the office. I had previously worked in Infosys and used to love those canteen debates I had with my colleagues. I was looking forward to them too.
September 04, 2020, 3:00AM: A message from PlaceCom! I got up from bed immediately when I saw that I was asked to report to the PlaceCom office. Despite being tired from the 5-hour long Prep session that our seniors had just conducted, I immediately ran to the PlaceCom office in my fastest sprint possible with my heart beating really fast. After all, I had just given the HUL interview 2 days back, at their corporate office in Mumbai. Then when I got to know that I had been selected for the Sales & Marketing summer internship in HUL, the first thing I felt: relief! I had finally made it to my dream company.
The memories of my summer internship at ICICI Bank are vivid in my mind, even though it has been more than a month now since its completion.
The challenges and unique skill set required for banking and financial services industry has always excited and gained my attention. It was one of the primary areas I focused on during my under-graduation. It was no brainer that I chose finance as my focus area and paid extra attention to build strong fundamentals. When I heard that RBS is coming to campus for summer placements, I was nervous and excited at the same time, dreaming about the possibility of grabbing the golden opportunity to work as an intern for the prestigious company.
It is often said that the best way to learn something is through application. The summer internship is no different for an MBA student. My internship at Indus Valley Partners offered me the opportunity to learn more about financial markets, particularly the hedge fund industry. It was an enriching experience to get hands-on finance and technology and apply the skills learnt in classes at IIM Rohtak to real-world data. I worked as a business analyst intern on a portfolio management product which offered the clients to check the real-time updates of their portfolios in various industries.
