Penning down my internship experience helps me relive the enthralling moments all together again. I’m not sure if Redbull gives you wings but my internship definitely gave me the confidence to shed the weight on my shoulders to venture, experiment, learn, make mistakes and relearn.
I interned at JSW Steel, Sales Department. I was assigned a project to estimate steel consumption in tractor and farm industry and build a strategy to enhance sales. It had both market research and strategy development involved. My location was Mumbai but I had to travel to cities like Pune and Delhi, which I feel was the best part.
With the notification popping on my phone screen and nerves full of excitement, I hurriedly read the offer letter asking me to join from 8 th April’2019. The big curve on my face suddenly narrowed down when I confusingly gazed at the location – Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh! Never did I know that the upcoming two months at Lanjigarh (a small town in Kalahandi district of Odisha) would turn out to be a lifetime memorable experience, the imprint of which would never fade away!
Summers is an exciting time in the B-school journey. I too had a mixed bag of feelings and notions about the company and place I was going to. It started with a train journey to Jamshedpur and a stay at the legendary GET hostel. Soon after our orientation session, we were cabbed out to West Bokaro which is a coal mining division of TSL. Here, my project was on “Cost analysis of Amenities, Impact on employees & business due to outsourcing”. It was a 4-hour drive and my first view of Jharkhand’s enticing countryside.
Even before the internship got started, there were butterflies in the stomach. Thoughts like, ''How would the 2 months go by?'', ''Will I be able to manage the work that will be given?'' and the worst of all, ''Do I actually even know what work I will be assigned there''? Woah! It was a conundrum of limitless questions that run through the mind. One thing I can say after finally traversing the 2 months journey is that it was beautiful!
