After packing all my bag packs, documents, and some snacks made by mom, I was ready to start my fresh journey to Chennai for my first job. The journey was fun accompanied by fellow travelers and the great hospitality but turned into a catastrophe when I was not able to find my bag full of clothes that I had kept below the seats. Thankfully, the bag with laptop and the documents was near my upper seat. Tension, tension, and tension!! Here in the new city, with all hopes and dreams, I lost my set of clothes at the very arrival. I was supposed to report the company at 1 PM, and here I was without clothes in Chennai Central at 9 AM. Backing up was not an option now, many thoughts come up in my mind like reporting to the police, asking help from someone at the station, or getting out and giving some excuses to the company about joining late with a wrong impression. As I was on the bus and going to my guest house, I saw some Pantaloons stores on the way and luckily one very near my guest house. All my worries were gone since I found the store for all my needs at a very affordable price and by a trusted name. Everything I needed was present here. That shopping experience was one of the best memories of my life. I finished my shopping by 11:30 AM and rushed to the company to report in fresh, crisp formals and shining shoes with a great first impression. Pantaloons became more than a clothing brand for me since that day. It became my savior, my companion, my most trusted store. Its presence is massive in my life so as the presence of ABG with their variety of quality products and services. Pantaloons is aligned well with the vision of the Aditya Birla group and growing with India’s global ambitions. Thank you, Pantaloons, for saving my day.

FROM ENGINEER’S CHOICE TO ENGINEER’S STORY | JATIN SINGLA, IIFT
This story is of a kid, who got inspired from a very unique tagline by Aditya Birla Group. His father was into construction business. He was 11, when one fine day during his vacations he happened to visit a site where construction work was ongoing. There were bricks, mud, steel, cement and a lot of other building materials. But all of a sudden, there was something written on a cement bag, that caught his attention. It was, “Ultratech Cement – The Engineer’s Choice”. The kid asked his father, who is an engineer? His father smiled and explained him that whatever he is seeing around him, those buildings, road, bridges, cars etc., everything has been designed by an engineer. The kid was left awe amazed. He seemed to have a whole new world opened in front of him. He told his father that he will become an engineer. That one line written over a cement bag, gave him a purpose in his life.

To get into a premier b-school takes a lot of sincerity and hard work but if you achieve your goal then nothing seconds that feeling. I felt ecstatic because I had scored 99.8 percentile in IIFT’s written exam. I was literally on top of the world because my efforts paid off. The next round was supposed to be a group discussion and personal interview. I knew this would be the deciding factor because the written exam was just the first step towards my dream college. I started prepping for my personal interview. A very important aspect of interviews is the clothes you wear and the confidence with which you carry yourself. I was in dilemma as to where I could buy a good blazer and a pair of trousers. My father has an impeccable taste so I asked him to suggest me a few brands. He told me that I should visit Van Heusen’s outlet. I visited the outlet the very next day. The collection was impressive just like my father told. I bought a chic looking black colour blazer and trousers. It was the D-day and I was very nervous about the whole process. I wondered whether I would be good enough or not but when I came out of my room all dressed up, I could see the happy faces of my father and mother. They both wished me luck as I went to the interview process. As I was walking in the waiting hall with all the other candidates I could feel the ease with which I could carry the whole attire. The blazer was light and easy to wear around because I was not feeling tired or drowsy waiting for the process to start, as all the other candidates were sweaty and panicky. I went into the interview wearing my confidence and came out all happy. My interview went really well and eventually I got selected for getting admission into IIFT. This one little encounter with Van Heusen changed my life for good.

We take this mantle throughout our lives in various different guises, that is how one is moulded into becoming a leader. Not everyone is born a leader. It is through a patient learning of a subset of skills and behaviors that need to be learnt, considered, practiced and developed as many theories have demonstrated. That is my belief after going through a phase of failure. After in spite of having good scores, not being selected time and time again. Till now, life has indeed shown me the bottom of the ocean.
