 A US $44.3 billion corporation, a conglomerate of 38 companies, an employer of 120,000 employees (belonging to 42 nationalities), a proud enlisted company in Fortune 500, and many more insignia under its sleeves, Aditya Birla Group is too big to describe. The legacy started with Seth Shiv Narayan Birla and followed by Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla, who set up industries in critical sectors such as textiles and fiber, aluminium, cement, and chemicals. Adding to it Aditya Vikram Birla established the first India-based multinational and brought pride to India by putting her on the world map. Now, under the able chairmanship of Kumar Mangalam Birla, ABG strongly holds its position as a leading player in different sectors in India and the world. Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional                                                                                          --- Roger Crawford I come from a rural background and spent the first 16 years of my life in a small town in Bihar, named Katihar. When I was in class 12, I went to Kolkata with my friends. For the first time, I saw malls, tall buildings, cars, multiplex and was smitten by the luxury and charm of this city. I didn’t have enough money to enjoy all those things, which made me feel low. That day I decided that I will earn more and more money. I passed the 12th and decided to join the merchant navy because of its high paying nature. I completed my B.tech in marine engineering and joined M.V. Crusader as a trainee engineer. I really enjoyed my job. For the first time, I boarded a flight. I went to Hong Kong and visited other countries like Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore. I was earning in Dollars and getting timely promotions. After 2-3 years, I realised that this is the job I am good at but not the job I love to do. I started introspecting and further realised that I want to lead a different life. I realized that there is a misalignment between my real ambition and my present lifestyle. Then I decided to pursue MBA as it provided me an opportunity to fulfill my professional as well as my social aspirations. My hard work paid off and today I am a proud IIFTian, (Batch 2019-21)

April had just begun and the sky wore a rare outfit of dense clouds. I sat besides the window with a storm stirring inside me, complimenting the weather outside. My graduation results were due anytime now. I’d never been this nervous about results, but this time it was special. I’d been promised a bike provided I ace the exams. After 3 minutes of wait which felt nothing short of a lifetime, I received a notification. The results were out and I’d fared reasonably well. I leapt in joy and informed my dad about the same as I grew impatient by every passing second for the bike.

A beautiful day and the morning light and the fun started with the ride. I still remember my last trip to grand pa’s house. The visit to his house has always been a memorable experience for me as I loved the languid pace of life that it had to offer and the unconditional love and pampering that we received abundantly from our grandparents. The house is an ancestral mansion whose bricks and walls have seen stories fold and unfold. The house was renovated 15 years back using Ultratech cement and it still has no cracks and has stood well grounded.

Aditya Birla Group, the name needs no introduction. It has penetrated every inch of India residing in the minds and hearts of people alike. From being a naive kid watching ‘Taking India to the World’ advertisement and being fascinated by it to aspiring to be a part of the ABG family, I now realize how far I have come. My first recollection of ABG was as a child when I opened my lunch box in school and was surprised to find the food wrapped in some kind of aluminium sheet. Much to my surprise, the food was hot. I came home and asked my mother about it. I came to know of Freshwrapp and my tryst with ABG started. I clearly remember the day when I first stepped into a Van Heusen showroom. I always wanted a good suit for myself and this too was in a way given to me by ABG. I can proudly say that it was the suit that I interviewed in for IIFT, and behold, I am here now. The Forever 21 jeans that I gifted my sister from my first salary, the Louis-Phillipe shirt I bought for my father, the Ultratech cement holding the foundations of my home, ABG has been an indispensable part of my life. When you come to think of it, the number of lives that ABG has touched in India and the world has been commendable. Few go beyond duty and uphold the responsibility that come with power and privilege and ABG without and ounce of doubt is one of them.
