ADITYA BIRLA GROUP - MY FOREVER COMPANION

ADITYA BIRLA GROUP - MY FOREVER COMPANION

Aditya Birla Group, founded in 1857, has played a significant role in our lives growing up. This Indian multinational conglomerate which operates in 35 countries has set benchmarks as one of it's kind touching millions of people across the world. My association with the Aditya Birla Group has been since time immemorial. My formative years were spent in the suburbs of the 'City of joy' Kolkata. Going down the memory lane, one of the fondest memories were during the construction of our house. It was in the late 90s. My father would often take me and my brother to the site on the weekends for checking up on the progress of the building. We were seven and two years old, livid with energy. One of the vivid memories from the site were the Ultratech cement bags which would be kept stocked for the construction. While my father would be busy inspecting the house, me and my brother would play around with the sacks hiding behind and jumping on them. It was a precious moment for both of us which deepened our bond as siblings.

Typically on the first day of college, you are surrounded by a lot of unknown faces who are as nervous as you are, if not more. Most of them are either trying to initiate a conversation or be a part of one. Being exposed to such a different environment, everybody is dressed to impress in order to leave the best possible first impression on each other since that tends to go a long way. On such crucial events, you tend to rely on a brand that conveys the idea of YOU to the people around.

Capturing the Castle – Experiences & Beyond

Capturing the Castle – Experiences & Beyond

It was a breezy evening and I had just returned from my MBA preparation classes when my parents told me about my grandparents moving in with us since they were not keeping well and needed support. We decided to sell our house in Agra and build a new one in Noida. We contacted Aditya Birla Housing Finance’s executive and he offered the complete range of housing finance solutions. Through its lending solutions, ABHFL enabled us to own our dream home. As a welcome gift, I decided to buy something for my parents. So, me and my brother went to the nearby Pantaloons store, one-stop solution for all the fashion needs. We bought a kurta for my grandmother and a shirt from Louis Phillipe for my grandfather. While leaving the store, the Forever21 store caught my eye and picked up a few clothes for myself too. As I was about to make the payment, we ran out of cash. First I thought of not buying those clothes but my brother came to my rescue and made the payment thru Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Bhim Wallet. Happy and cheerful, we went back home. My father and I went to inspect the progress of our new house which was on the verge of completion. It came out just like I had dreamt of and felt very strong and secure. I could see the workers using UltraTech cement and its tagline “The Engineer’s Choice” played in my mind.  On the day of puja for our new house, my grandmother wore the same saree I had gifted her. She looked pretty in it and we got a nice family picture clicked. The same day my IIFT result was declared and I was selected for their MBA(IB) program. My family was delighted and my grandparents gave me their wishes for a bright future.

Aditya Birla Group is one of India’s most successful multinational conglomerates headquartered in Worli, Mumbai. It has truly put India on the map by expanding its operations worldwide. The origins of this conglomerate can be traced back to 1863 when Shiv Narayana Birla set the wheels in motion by moving to Bombay to facilitate his opium trade with China, thus by-passing British middlemen. I admire how Ghanshyam Das Birla established a jute company and increased its valuation by 4 times due to the increasing demand for gunny bags in world war 1 and also the fact that ABG members were key supporters of the Swaraj movement by Gandhi and that their textile business complemented Gandhi’s anti-British movement. I think this has impacted all of our lives indirectly. Hindalco industries Ltd. with its strategic acquisitions will become the world’s second largest Aluminium company and ensure that small and upcoming industries started by us, the youth of the country will not face shortage in procuring raw material. I associate myself with the ABFRL arm as I am a loyal customer of Louis Phillipe. The television commercial was impressive and the tagline ‘The upper crest’ was impactful. As a Mining Engineering graduate, I recognise the importance of Essel Mining & Industries Ltd. (EMIL) and their production of Noble Ferro Alloys which is essential for manufacturing of alloy steel, high speed steel and special grade steel for infusing anti corrosive properties.

Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional                                                                                          --- Roger Crawford I come from a rural background and spent the first 16 years of my life in a small town in Bihar, named Katihar. When I was in class 12, I went to Kolkata with my friends. For the first time, I saw malls, tall buildings, cars, multiplex and was smitten by the luxury and charm of this city. I didn’t have enough money to enjoy all those things, which made me feel low. That day I decided that I will earn more and more money. I passed the 12th and decided to join the merchant navy because of its high paying nature. I completed my B.tech in marine engineering and joined M.V. Crusader as a trainee engineer. I really enjoyed my job. For the first time, I boarded a flight. I went to Hong Kong and visited other countries like Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore. I was earning in Dollars and getting timely promotions. After 2-3 years, I realised that this is the job I am good at but not the job I love to do. I started introspecting and further realised that I want to lead a different life. I realized that there is a misalignment between my real ambition and my present lifestyle. Then I decided to pursue MBA as it provided me an opportunity to fulfill my professional as well as my social aspirations. My hard work paid off and today I am a proud IIFTian, (Batch 2019-21)

Luck Served On A Silver Platter | Aman Agarwal, IIFT

April had just begun and the sky wore a rare outfit of dense clouds. I sat besides the window with a storm stirring inside me, complimenting the weather outside. My graduation results were due anytime now. I’d never been this nervous about results, but this time it was special. I’d been promised a bike provided I ace the exams. After 3 minutes of wait which felt nothing short of a lifetime, I received a notification. The results were out and I’d fared reasonably well. I leapt in joy and informed my dad about the same as I grew impatient by every passing second for the bike.
