IIM Indore, probably one of the top B-schools with the highest batch strength of 600 odd students has a lot of its own unique features. A 193-acre campus located away from the city on a hillock, has one of the most beautiful and serene campuses with zig-zag institutional roads, the sunset point, plush green lawns and a rich canopy of trees.
A normal day in IIM Indore is very similar to any other B-school with loads of assignments, early morning deadlines, daily pre-reads and surprise quizzes. However, Planet-I as we fondly call it has a lot of activities which are unique to itself like the Rural Immersion Program, The Himalayan outbound Program, Utsaha and Udaan. IIM Indore is very focused on connecting and improving the rural population of the state which laid the foundation for the programs like the Rural Immersion Program. It is spread across more than 40 districts of the state and the PGP-1’s from our campus visit these districts as a group and spend a week with the people in those rural areas. The insights which the students gather are given to the government in the discussion that students have with their respective district collectors and are implemented in various schemes like MNREGA etc.
Planet-I also believes in experiential learning like team-building which cannot be done with the text books or the regular case discussions. Hence it started the Himalayan Outbound Program which is now being done in other IIM’s also. But the IIM Indore was the forerunner of these program. The PGP-2s get to spend a week in the Himalayas with exciting locations like Dayara Bugyal, Bedni Bugyal, and Kedakanta. It involves a lot of trekking and rafting which builds team activities and team-building among the students.
Apart from these Programs, the campus has events like Utsaha, which is a rural marketing initiative taken by the PGP’s. Utsaha is one of the most unique events in India, the projects are executed in real rural settings rather than a simulated one. UDAAN was started in 2008 to make a meaningful difference, and to give back to the society. Each year a marathon is conducted with various themes like peace and harmony, making our planet greener, spreading education, supporting the old, supporting the homeless and the fight against rape and gender discrimination There are more activities other than what mentioned here. Every day in IIM Indore is very exciting.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
I would like to work in Aditya Birla – Fashion and Retail. Right from the beginning, I have a love for Brands particularly in fashion like Louis Philippe, Allen Solly etc. and a getting a chance to manage these brands will be a dream come true for me. Adding to this, ABG also has retail fashion stores like Planet fashion which will help me in understanding the nuances of not only managing a brand but to about managing the retail stores. I believe that ABG will be a kickstart to my career right of my MBA as it will give an all-around experience.
