The Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur was one of my dream business schools from the outset, and as I had received calls from most of the new IIMs, I had decided to pick IIM Kashipur as the destination for these two years of my management education. With a lush, green, sprawling campus spread across two hundred acres, and architecture inspired by older, more established IIMs, it has rapidly begun its ascent into the upper echelon of business schools in the country. All of this made my choice relatively easy. Renowned faculty and a peer group composed of some of the best students in India also make this campus one of the places to be for management education in our country. The diversity of the group here and the interaction between the seniors is another reason why this campus is one of the best of the new IIMs. IIM-Kashipur also has an exhaustive library with Bloomberg terminals and other world-class facilities. It is located in the heartland of industrial and agricultural India in the Gangetic plains, located along the Kashipur-Rudrapur industrial belt.

IIM Kashipur along with its excellent academic facilities enjoys great sports facilities and potential for extracurricular pursuits including a full basketball court, a tennis court, table tennis tables and ample space for football and cricket, which could help the students unwind and relax. The other brilliant thing about IIM Kashipur is the fact that the students run nearly everything: the mess, the sports competitions, extra-curricular, placements, academics and nearly every student activity. All the competitions and quizzes are run by the students and IIM-Kashipur has enjoyed significant success at these competitions in the past.

IIM Kashipur also enjoys other facilities such as an on-campus store, an on-campus doctor who comes in for an hour every day for consultations for students and even an ATM, which allows for quick and easy withdrawal of cash for students. It also has a couple of cafeterias on campus.

IIM Kashipur also has a tie-up with the World Bank which allows students the otherwise rare opportunity to work on World Bank projects, and also has the unique specialization in “Green Management”. It has a robust foreign-exchange program, with tie-ups with five different nations including France, Greece, Israel, Vietnam and Thailand. A foreign exchange program such as this would be uniquely beneficial to students in allowing them the chance to explore different nations and experience cultural diversity.

All of these factors make IIM Kashipur one of the best places to be in India for management education at the moment.

Which ABG company would I want to work for and Why?

The Aditya Birla subsidiary I would like to work for is Ultratech Cement. My background in civil engineering, including my work experience as a construction manager, combined potentially with managerial knowledge could make me a very good fit for a management role in this company. Ultratech is one of the leading cement companies in the world, and a chance to work with this company would provide me with a great learning experience but also a chance to display my techno-functional skills.
