What comes to one’s mind when one thinks of an amazing campus? The very first thing that comes to my mind is the size of the campus. I would expect the campus to be huge. With a size of 78 ha, IIM Indore boasts of a huge campus, second only to IIM Lucknow amongst the older IIMs. IIM Indore campus is located at Prabandh Shikhar, on Rau-Pitampura road.
The next thing that comes to my mind is whether the campus is equipped with infrastructural facilities like hostels, sports complex etc. IIM Indore campus has multiple hostels, well equipped with utilities. Most of the hostels have a common area equipped with one of basketball, badminton or volleyball courts, thus catering to the sports enthusiasts amongst the students on campus. Although, one could argue that the badminton courts are open courts and the winds could disrupt the play, the reality is that there are hardly any winds and thus the gameplay is not hampered. In addition, fluorescent lights have been placed at each of these courts to enable a 24x7 access to the students to the courts. Further, there is a newly opened sports complex on campus. It contains a gym with amazing equipment and trainers. The sports complex also boasts of an Olympic size swimming pool. Trainers are available at the pools to help people learn how to swim. In addition, the sports complex also has a squash court and a tennis court.
How about the classrooms and libraries? All the classes at IIM Indore are conducted at the academic block. The classrooms are huge and equip up to 80 students per classroom. A central library exists not very far from the hostels and academic block. Apart from the traditional hardbound books, the library has online databases that are made available to all the students on campus.
Apart from the hostels and classrooms, the campus hosts a salon, a student-run retail shop that goes by the name pi-shop, an aptly named food hub called adda by HUL and amul cool corner. At the time of writing this article, there was a proposition of installation of food joints like McD, Pizza hut, KFC etc. on a rotational basis. After the usual classes every day, all these food joints cater to the exhausted students of Planet-I. After having one’s fill of food, many people go for a walk down the lane to SR-15 and SR-17 at around 6 to 7 pm, since they get to experience scenic sunsets at around that time. There is also a special sunset point on campus that has been a spot to capture many amazing photographs.
Apart from the assignments and preparation of readings for the classes on the next day, the nights on campus are very lively, with night-walks, sports activities, club and committee activities, and the occasional sightings of snakes. Overall, the IIM Indore campus is a unique campus especially thanks to the ecosystem that exists here.
