The City of Lakes! That’s what came to mind as I saw my call letter from IIM Udaipur. Being a water person, this excited me more than the six core values that our institute stands for! I have always been a water person. Being a professional swimmer, being close to a water body excites me. When I visited the IIM Udaipur website, I was convinced this was the place for me. This was primarily because the proposed plan contained two lakes. When I reached campus, the view from my hostel window was breath-taking. Based in the majestic hills of the ancient Aravalli, the oldest range in the country, the campus is always breezy. Most of the hostel windows open to the crimson sunrise every morning. A long walk or jog in the morning amidst the greenery during monsoons is something I had never experienced in my busy city life. This is something really exciting for me.
The campus, spread over 300 acres is a mini-city in itself. Once completed, my campus will have all facilities enclosed in a fortitude of nature. The campus hostels are named after historic forts in the region, giving us the feeling of living like royalty. The state of the art architecture was designed by Mr. B. V. Joshi, winner of the Pritzker prize, the highest award in architecture. It is truly a royal home away from home!
Another thing I am fascinated about is reading. And boy, does this campus fail to surprise me. Our new library which will open soon is three storied! A true delight for book lovers. There are many clubs, committees and special interest groups which keep the atmosphere lively and vibrant. After college events, seminars and fests are common every week. Being a government institute, every national holiday is commemorated with great enthusiasm by organising quizzes, debates and competitions.
The annual management fest, Solaris, attracts speakers from all over the country. We get an opportunity to interact with the best minds in the country. Also, cultural and social events keep us busy all year round. Being a management institute, we get first-hand knowledge of organising and hosting events by looking into each aspect of inviting and conducting any event. I feel this experience is one that will help shape me for future endeavours. I am proud to be a part of such a unique learning curve here in IIM Udaipur!
Which ABG company am I interested in working for?
Amongst all the ABG companies, I would like to work for Hindalco. Having worked in a business to business company before, I feel I know the intricacies of trade carried out in the sector. This will enable me to gel well in the culture. As heard from my friends in the industry, Hindalco gives people the opportunity to grow and self-develop, is employee oriented and focuses on continuous learning. The positive view of the management is something I look forward to imbibe. Since the opportunity for me to climb the echelons of the corporate ladder will be exciting, I would like to work in the ABG company.
