What makes learning at a b-school so special? How is it different from graduate or engineering college? The answer lies in learning and teaching methodology. Because at b-schools like MICA, you don’t just learn from textbooks and spit out theory in exams. You also learn by doing. B-schools like MICA give you the unique chance to experience learning through various projects. One such project at MICA is Sankalp. In this video, find out how students at MICA learn management and marketing through theatre.
Summary of the video:
Sankalp is the brainchild of MICA’s theatre society. Every year since its inception in 1999, MICA’s theatre society has been one of the best forms of self-expression and creativity. Every year, the committee comes together to create a play, promote it, market it and sell it for Sankalp.
Everything from getting sponsors to designing costumes is managed by students. Students plan every last detail and carry out this project as a part of their theatre committee task. But, the question is - what do marketing management students learn through theatre?
The answer lies in the methodology of execution. Since Sankalp is a purely student run initiative, MICAns not only get to learn the ins and outs of setting up a production. They also get to learn values like team work, co-operation, commitment, working under pressure, promptness, individuality, flexibility, time budgeting skills, adaptability, etc.
Through experiential learning like MICAns get to do with Sankalp, they develop the ability to gain deep insights and use them in their future marketing careers.
- Experiential learning helps you learn various values and concepts that normal learning does not help you with.
- Theatre production teaches MICAns how to balance various aspects of a working production while reaching goals for their sponsors.
- Apply your school learning to real problems in order to understand it properly.
