It is usually Class 10 when you make career decisions. It becomes very difficult for a teenager to make such decisions, at that moment the only thing I wanted to ever be like my father. My father always had the leadership aura and that is where I eventually wanted to get.
After Graduation, I was clear I wanted to do an MBA which would help me grow as a person and reach the goals which I had set for myself. The first hurdle was clearing entrance exams. I won't say I did well in all exams, but it was enough to get me to interview opportunities with some colleges. Being an introvert, Interviews were a nightmare. But after multiple mock interviews and preparation the D-Day had come, the first interview of the season with MISB Bocconi (Now SDA Bocconi Asia Center). It was a great experience, I would say it was one of those interviews, which you would not mind giving multiple times. The interviewer was great and made sure I was able to give my best. Luckily I got through the first round with my friends.
A pampered child now had to live alone in the Job Capital of India, Mumbai. We moved into our hostel on the 1st of July, white and totally empty rooms compared to the well-maintained rooms at home, it took a while to settle down. Came the first day of the MBA-Life 3rdof July, fully suited up, I could feel I was getting towards ‘The Goal'. Then came the reality check. The Placecom provided us with the CV format. After adding all the relevant information, I struggled to fill half a page. I had 3 months to make a proper CV before Internship placements started. I reached out to seniors to provide solutions and guidance. Then came the race to get live projects and taking parts in multiple competition.
The college gave us enough flexibility in the initial months, to venture out and complete live projects. The competitive environment in the college helped us gain motivation and eventually, we formed teams and started taking part in competitions. It was important to make balanced teams so that you had an overall perspective to all solutions to competitions. The first few competitions, we were not able to qualify and it took us a while to get into a rhythm. Then we were able to qualify for final campus rounds. We went to the Department of Management Studies, IIT and were able to secure the first position. At this point, it was a validation that I was going on the right track. Post this we also were among the top 5 teams in a market research competition by HDFC bank.
After completing our summer internship and CSR internship, our first year came to an end. Today is 3rd July 2018 and now we have the new batch which has come in. It feels like yesterday that I was in there position chasing seniors and asking them for guidance. One year of MBA had got me closer to the goal that I have and now its time to help the juniors so that they can build there CV before we are back to internships!
