Dr. Chintan Gala is a dentist from Bombay who had cleared his medical entrance exams but couldn’t do his MBBS because of a condition that he developed suddenly before his results were declared. He had developed ankylosing spondylitis, which not only caused him severe pain but threatened to affect his ability to walk. His dream of becoming a doctor ended the day his family doctor broke the news to him. He didn’t know if he would forever lose his mobility or not.
However, Chintan did not give up hope. After 5-6 months of physiotherapy, he started walking again. He cleared his BDS entrance, and with hard work, he managed to add the title of ‘Dr.’ to his name. Finally, he decided he wanted to do an MBA because he recognized that an MBA would allow him to work in the healthcare industry from a managerial position. He was forced to change his dream of doing an MBBS, but he didn’t give up. He found a way to stick to the healthcare field, the one he was always passionate about. He is currently pursuing an MBA from IIM Shillong and is looking forward to a career in the healthcare field.
In this entire journey, Chintan found a new version of himself. Especially when, despite the threat of losing his dreams, he did not budge. Tata Steel salutes Chintan’s positive attitude.
