Watching The First Year On Campus - Musings Of A Second Year @ Planet-I

The new year at campus started out very differently from the first one. We were more matured and accustomed to the life on campus. After completing our respective internships, we were all looking forward to being back on campus probably, as is for most people on campus, for our last college and hostel experience. And it has been pretty amazing till now. While doing my summer internship I definitely missed the crazy talks and movies with my friends back here on campus. We do not have a compulsory mess system this year, so it is fun to explore new places to eat, order from random places and try to make small tit-bits together in our hostel rooms. The classes are also more to our liking as we have all taken subjects as per our preference and they are also more spaced out so we do not have a very hectic schedule on a daily basis.

An interesting aspect of the second year is the arrival of juniors on campus. The moment they arrive reminds us of how we got here a year ago and how lost we were too back then. Watching them shop for basics at the PI shop (a student run enterprise), asking for directions for various places on campus and queuing for registration is all very nostalgic. Moreover, some of us get to be mentors to the juniors. I got to do it as well. I interacted with my mentee and told her how the first year would be. She and her friend were very anxious about the first year. They had so many questions and apprehensions just like we were a year ago about how subjects would be, which clubs and committees to join, how many hours of sleep to get daily, how to manage everything and also prepare for the summer placements. I remember how on the registration day I was also absolutely terrified, especially after hearing about how tough first year at an IIM can be. But here I was a year later interacting with a few juniors, helping them through their initial days and telling them to just take one step at a time. Talking to them was just a reminder of how we made it!

Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?

I would like to work for Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Limited. Before joining IIM Indore, I was not very definite about which field of management I would like to pursue and hence I was open to all possibilities. While pursuing all the courses in our first year, the finance courses fascinated me the most especially the use of technology in the finance world. Since I am from a technical background I could understand the technical aspect and how it could fit with the business world. I also did my internship at Fidelity Investments where I was exposed more to how technology could play a role in the financial world. I thus think a role at Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Limited would be most suited for me.
